A role designed to accelerate the digital transformation within our Mechanical Systems Standard Parts qualification domain. The jobholder will primarily serve as a Data Scientist leveraging foundational data engineering and machine learning techniques to extract insights from qualification, test, and lifecycle data.

In parallel, the jobholder will directly contribute to the core mandate of the Qualification team: ensuring the design, development, and official qualification of Mechanical Systems Standard Parts and associated processes throughout the Aircraft lifecycle. This blend of hands-on mechanical data management and strategic data science application is crucial for moving the team towards predictive qualification, optimizing part standardization, and enhancing overall knowledge management efficiency.

This role is ideal for an entry-level professional eager to apply data science principles to complex, real-world mechanical and aerospace challenges, driving immediate process improvements and long-term data strategy.

Job Scope - 

Core Data Science & Generative AI Development

The candidate will drive the application of data science across the Mechanical/Electrical Systems domain, focusing heavily on leveraging unstructured data (technical reports, specifications, and documentation).

• Generative AI & NLP Solutions: Develop and implement innovative solutions using Large Language Models (LLMs) for critical engineering tasks, including document classification, automated text analysis, and efficient information retrieval from vast technical libraries.

• Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG): Design and build complete RAG solutions to enhance the accuracy and context-awareness of AI-driven insights, specifically for answering complex queries regarding standard part compliance and qualification criteria.

• Model Evaluation & Assurance: Conduct thorough evaluations and statistical analysis of LLMs and other machine learning models to ensure they meet high standards of performance, reliability, and relevance to mechanical engineering requirements.

• Insight Generation & Visualization: Translate ill-defined business challenges in qualification into concrete analytical problems. Create rapid, impactful visualizations and demos to effectively communicate complex data findings and model outputs to engineering stakeholders.

• Prompt Engineering & Workflow: Skillfully craft and refine prompts to maximize the effectiveness and quality of LLM outputs for technical use cases

• Data Science Workflow: Maintain familiarity with agentic workflows to improve the efficiency and automation of data-driven systems within the qualification process.

Mechanical Systems Qualification & Knowledge Management

The candidate will also contribute to foundational engineering support to maintain quality standards and process efficiency, ensuring data science outputs are grounded in technical reality.

• Standard Part Expertise: Support the Qualification Engineer mandate by adhering to established procedures, processes, and ways of working.

• Technical Qualification Support: Contribute to the development and verification of system standard parts (e.g., Fittings, Hydraulic Pipes, Clamps, Insulation, Command Cables & Labels), providing technical analysis for new part requests.

• Documentation & Compliance: Assist in the derivation of technical specifications for standard parts, propose alternatives, and help draft/review test plans and technical documentation (e.g., Qualification Test Reports).

• Process & Interface: Function as interface support to the Product Family Responsible (PFR) for the mechanical systems standard part portfolio. Support manufacturing plants and in-service aircraft with basic queries related to mechanical system standard parts.

• Project Management Basics: Practise basic project management skills by providing periodic reports and monitoring the progress of qualification activities.

• Knowledge Management - Support team to create/manage Knowledge database and align with Airbus KM goals.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., Design, Certification, Manufacturing) and business stakeholders to understand project requirements and provide analytical support.

• Communication: Communicate effectively with both internal teams and external providers, ensuring a clear understanding of project goals, methodologies, and technical deliverables.
