Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a dedicated Quality Engineer to be part of our dynamic team supporting a multitude of Northrop’s premier programs in Amherst, NY (Buffalo area). 

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking a Quality Engineer to join the Quality & Mission Excellence Organization in Amherst, NY (Buffalo area). We are looking for a self-starter who is able to work with minimal direction, with strong oral and written communication, a strong sense of accountability and interpersonal skills, and who’s able to successfully collaborate across organizations and functions to meet common objectives.

What You'll Get To Do:

  • Develops, modifies, applies, and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product

  • Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place and maintained. Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment

  • Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms, and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications

  • Perform production floor activities associated with quality, production, and test activities, while assisting in the corrective action board (CAB) including data gathering and analysis

  • Possess technical knowledge in specifications/standards, drawing interpretation, measurement and analysis methods, process and product assessments, and corrective action methodology

  • Support the Inspection Team by ensuring contractual quality requirements are flowed down to the cell, clarifying drawing and other build documentation questions

  • Possess the ability to comprehend and apply technical standards, scientific principles, theories and concepts

  • Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction while collaborating with the compliance team

  • Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements

  • May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality

  • May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies

Basic Qualifications for a Quality Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) related field to include quality, engineering and/or manufacturing with 2 years of relevant experience

  • ​Experience in managing and maintaining a QMS; specifically nonconforming

  • Possess technical knowledge in quality specifications and standards

  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications especially Excel, Word, Power Point

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance

  • US Citizenship required

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Quality Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) related field to include quality, engineering and/or manufacturing with 5 years of relevant experience; OR 3 years of quality, engineering and/or manufacturing with a Master's degree

  • Experience in managing and maintaining a QMS; specifically nonconforming

  • Possess technical knowledge in quality specifications and standards

  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications especially Excel, Word, Power Point

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance

  • US Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in STEM discipline

  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100 and internal auditing

  • Experience supporting the proposal process; developing and maintaining standards, BoEs, etc.

  • Experience reviewing and capturing contractual requirements

  • Working knowledge of government contract requirements; FARS and DFARS

  • Experience reviewing and approving of engineering changes, deliverable documentation, process changes, in accordance with documented processes and procedures, etc.

  • Working knowledge of GD&T and ANSI Y14.5 requirements

  • Working knowledge of AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements

  • Working knowledge of Institute for Printed Circuits (IPC) Standards and Publications (e.g., IPC 610, J-STD 001, etc.)

  • Training in LEAN, Six Sigma, and CI methodologies, Certified Green or Black Belt

  • Experience in an electronics assembly manufacturing environment

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,600.00 - $119,400.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $0.00 - $0.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
