Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an Engineering Director Level 1 to lead an engineering team to support the Marine Systems Missile Launch Programs. This person will report to the Site Engineering Director. The team is responsible for engineering development and production support of missile launcher systems for the ultimate end use in US Navy submarines and the surface ships. As Engineering Director, the position will be responsible for leading a distributed geographical, highly dynamic, growing multi-discipline engineering team.
In this role, the Engineering Director will be responsible for the following:
Ensure engineering efforts are planned and executed to deliver quality work products.
Lead the development and implementation of the technical roadmap strategy.
Ensure the business is appropriately staffed and enable resource sharing across multiple business areas.
Drive predictable program financial results.
Drive engineering strategy and practices in support of the OU’s portfolio, including but not limited to investments and talent strategy.
Lead talent cultivation with continued, strong focus on retention efforts, and engagement initiatives.
Prioritize engineering investments are aligned with strategic imperatives.
Demonstrate thought leadership on digital transformation.
Position requires travel up to 25% of the time to support distributed team.
Candidates must have exceptional leadership and teambuilding skills, strategic thinking, strong technical acumen, and the ability to lead multiple engineering disciplines across programs. The candidate will work with cross-discipline team members and therefore must have excellent communication skills, presentation experience and the ability to work seamlessly with a community of engineers and managers to achieve the goals of the organization. The candidate must have the ability to build consensus and resolve conflict. The candidate must collaborate with business area leadership, and other functional partners to resolve complex issues in a timely manner to help meet program commitments. The position could be located in Sunnyvale, CA, or Annapolis, MD.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math discipline) with 10 years of engineering experience; OR a Master's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math discipline) with 8 years of engineering experience; OR a PhD in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math discipline) with 5 years of engineering experience
U.S Citizenship required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
8 years of professional experience in the defense or aerospace industries.
5 years demonstrated success managing technical teams.
5 years of experience working in a technical role.
Strong engineering background with demonstrated experience managing through design and production.
Solid understanding of engineering process with execution experience.
Experience with Earned Value Management System.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with Navy Strategy Weapons Systems programs.
Experience with D5 missile programs.
Experience with taking programs through design develop and into low rate initial production.
Advanced degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields.
Program management experience with focus on technical risk and opportunity management.
Success as leader of large functional organization.
Experience managing large control accounts with accountability for scope, schedule, budget, and technical.
