Job Description
 

The Oncology Business, Strategy, and Operations Lead will play a pivotal role in supporting the SVP of Oncology Clinical Development in building and executing the strategic vision for the Oncology Therapeutic Area (TA). As Gilead Oncology enters an exciting phase of growth and investment, this position offers the unique opportunity to collaborate directly with senior leadership to advance a world-class clinical development team, build the portfolio, and elevate oncology as a key focus area for Gilead.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • As a member of the Oncology Leadership Team help to design and facilitate Leadership team meetings, drive team engagement planning and execution, participate in decision making and strategy development, support the team’s overall success.

  • Business Strategy: A strategic advisor who provides trusted input and helps test ideas, especially for the oncology portfolio from research through launch. This role is a thought partner, facilitating strategic projects and enabling execution of the business strategy.

  • Collaboration with Corporate Development: Aligns oncology strategy with program and asset acquisitions, overseeing diligence staffing and evaluation.

  • Key contributor in staffing and resource allocation:  Liaise across Franchise Heads and HR to ensure the right talent and opportunities align with strategic priorities.

  • Goals & KPI’s: supports the leader and leadership team to define short and longer term goals and defining objectives and KPI’s for the TA, ensuring interconnectivity at a functional and enterprise level.

  • Special Projects: May lead or participate in initiatives in support of strategic priorities in support of anything from strategy to execution or growth.

  • Business Operations: maintain a comprehensive view of the priorities, projects, decisions, and actions that supports the Executive and tracks business area goals, study and functional budgets and growth.   

  • Effectively network across the organization and communicate with cross functional leaders to connect projects and workstreams that would otherwise remain siloed.  This includes key collaboration with Kite as part of the oncology strategy and portfolio

  • Serve as a key business partner and conduit to the leader ensuring that work within the team flows smoothly by driving operational efficiency and effectiveness, strategic alignment and integration of activities

  • Acts as an amplifier for their leader; will prepare and deliver presentations, manage existing communications strategies, and innovate new ones.

EXPERIENCE

  • PhD, MD in relevant field

  • 10+ years in industry drug development, a majority of experience in oncology highly preferred

  • Clinical Science and clinical trial experience in development at a large pharma, all phases of development (Ph I-Ph III and filing)

Strong track record in leadership roles, organizing teams and departments


 

The salary range for this position is: $243,100.00 - $314,600.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
