Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking to add a Principal / Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to its Human Systems Integration (HSI) team to work compliance on the Sentinel program. This opening is in Huntsville, AL or Roy, UT.

Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure. The selected engineer may be responsible for multiple tasks within requirements, verification, and interfaces for the Sentinel program from a human engineering perspective. The Systems Engineer may be responsible for supporting activities including use case development, requirements definition / allocation, functional decomposition, interface definition, verification & validation, and requirements traceability.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Contribute to system requirements development, management, and analysis for human engineering compliance documents to include Mil-Std-1472 and other applicable industry standards
  • Collaborate with program IPT counterparts to develop supporting systems engineering and design artifacts
  • Be proficient in the development of key system engineering artifacts such as requirement specifications and interface definition documents
  • Ensure appropriate coordination between SEIT Human Systems Integration and other design and integration teams
  • Participate in technical planning, verification and validation development, cost and risk considerations, and requirements analyses for integrated systems

Basic Qualifications:

  • Senior Principal Engineer: A Bachelor’s Degree in STEM fields such as Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline (e.g., human factors or psychology) from an accredited university is preferred, along with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree (preferred) in a STEM-related field with 6 years of relevant work experience; or a PhD in a related field with 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Principal Engineer: A Bachelor’s Degree in STEM fields such as Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline (e.g., human factors or psychology) from an accredited university is preferred, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree (preferred) in a STEM-related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or a PhD in a related field with 1 year of relevant work experience.

Both Levels:

  • Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance with an investigation date within the last 6 years
  • Must be able to be successfully screened for Enhanced Security Clearances, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs
  • Experience in fast-paced work environment and ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present to segment, program, and customer community
  • Experience using Microsoft (MS) Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Project and Engineering Scheduling tools or applications.
  • Experience with Compliance requirements and Mil-Std-1472
  • 3 years of Systems Engineering experience
  • 2 years of experience developing or reviewing requirements within DOORS or similar tool
  • 1 year of experience creating, updating, and maintaining system performance documentation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years’ experience in ICBM (MMIII or Sentinel) OR complex aerospace/defense systems
  • 2 years’ experience in team environments with leadership responsibilities
  • 1 year of experience with interface products (IRS, IDD, ICD) and requirement specifications
  • Large scale / complex system development experience across multiple phases of a development program: preliminary design, detailed design, integration and test, verification and sell off, transition to production.
  • Experience with implementing and using model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools, practices, and methods.
  • Strong understanding and broad application of complex engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.) for the development of complex systems of systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities.

Primary Level Salary Range: $108,800.00 - $163,200.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
