Senior Associate | Public Sector - Infrastructure, Land Acquisition and Tenure

  

We are seeking a remarkable Senior Associate to join our high performing Public Sector Brisbane team

The role

Working with our market leading Public Sector Partner, Majella Pollard you will work on some of Queensland's most complex and transformational major government infrastructure projects, including transport infrastructure for the 2032 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. This high performing practice is responsible for advising a broad range of public sector clients from State government departments, government owned corporations and local governments.  The client base is broad and varied across different levels, each with a unique opportunity to provide considered solutions.

You will be involved in providing advice to government agencies on a variety of project planning and acquisition matters, as well as advising on claims for compensation and attending mediations and instructing in Land Court litigation. This role will see you working with junior and senior counsel, and a variety of experts in valuation, town planning, hydrology, forensic accounting, economic need, quantity surveying, traffic and civil engineering.  You will also work closely with other practice groups within Clayton Utz, expanding your knowledge and expertise.

This role is a fulltime opportunity however we are open to discussing a part-time arrangement.

Key responsibilities

• A high level of client interaction and exposure to prominent government clients
• Undertaking advisory work, drafting short form agreements related to land, and drafting court documents
• Liaising with clients, experts and counsel
• Managing files with the support of junior resources in the team and attending Land Court appearances
• Briefing and liaising with counsel
• Collaborating with other practice groups
• Attendance at mediations, court hearings and reviews

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Experience in a Senior Associate or 4-5 PQE+ position in a similar role and/or practice group
• Experience in planning and acquisition in a private practice or in-house environment (litigation, property, and/or government experience would be advantageous)
• Superior written and verbal expression skills and an aptitude for reshaping and expressing complex concepts concisely
• Attention to detail and commitment to providing outstanding service to our clients
• A collegiate mindset and positive and enthusiastic attitude, which prioritises respect for peers and collaborative working.

Our national Public Sector group is widely regarded to be the premier private government practice in Australia and has a wealth of industry-leading practitioners.  Our Public Sector team advises a wide range of government agencies on some of their most complex and sensitive programs, from project inception through to contract management.  We use our skills to solve complex legal problems, assist with the development and implementation of program strategy, and inform policy development.
