PMO Lead

THE ROLE 

We are seeking a strategic and delivery-focused PMO Lead to establish and oversee the Project Management Office within the Design and Engineering function. This role will be responsible for defining and implementing project governance frameworks, managing cross-functional delivery portfolios, and ensuring alignment with business priorities and strategic outcomes. 

You will lead a team of project managers and delivery professionals, enabling consistent execution across initiatives, driving operational excellence, and supporting the company’s ambition to scale effectively and deliver high-impact outcomes. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

PMO Strategy & Governance 

  • Define and implement PMO frameworks, standards, and best practices across the organisation. 
  • Establish governance structures for project intake, prioritisation, and lifecycle management. 
  • Develop and maintain portfolio-level reporting, dashboards, and KPIs to track performance and delivery health. 

Portfolio & Programme Management 

  • Oversee the planning and execution of strategic programmes and projects across multiple business units. 
  • Manage interdependencies, risks, and resource allocation across the portfolio. 
  • Ensure alignment with strategic objectives, budget constraints, and delivery timelines. 

Team Leadership & Capability Building 

  • Build PMO capability through training, coaching, and continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and delivery excellence. 

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication 

  • Partner with senior stakeholders to align on priorities, trade-offs, and delivery progress. 
  • Lead steering committees and executive updates with clear, decision-ready materials. 
  • Act as a trusted advisor on project delivery, governance, and risk mitigation. 

Tools & Process Optimisation 

  • Own and optimise project management tools and systems (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jira, Smartsheet). 
  • Drive automation and standardisation of reporting and delivery workflows. 
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements. 

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES 

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate: 

  • Strong people management capabilities. 
  • Expertise in project and programme management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid). 
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills. 
  • Strategic thinking with a focus on operational execution. 
  • Ability to manage complex portfolios and drive cross-functional alignment. 
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and delivery excellence. 

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Proven experience leading a PMO or large-scale programme delivery function.  
  • Strong background in managing cross-functional teams and complex project portfolios.  
  • Experience with project management tools and reporting platforms.  
  • Familiarity with compliance, risk, and governance frameworks.  
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, Agile, SAFe) preferred.
