Leidos’ Defense Systems Mechanical Manufacturing Facility is seeking a Quality Control Metrology Inspection Lab Manager to join our team. This role is responsible for implementing a Quality Control system and leading a team that promotes customer satisfaction. The position will work closely with Quality Engineering to support continuous improvement efforts and reduction initiatives, developing effective and efficient inspection process flows for mechanical products such as machine parts, mechanical assemblies, composite assemblies, welded assemblies, painted or coated assemblies, flight hardware fabrication and assemblies, and more.

This role collaborates with diverse cross-functional teams and multiple quality sites, requiring strong leadership and communication skills.

Primary Responsibilities

This position manages all Quality Inspection employees within the Mechanical Manufacturing Facility and is responsible for performance management and hiring for the team.

  • Identify and maintain Metrology Lab personnel training requirements.

  • Serve as the primary quality control authority for problem identification, resolution, loss reporting, and continuous improvement.

  • Manage Quality Inspectors and Quality Engineering staff.

  • Oversee daily operations of quality inspection personnel.

  • Plan inspection staffing needs based on manufacturing requirements; delegate tasks to Quality Engineers, Technicians, and Inspectors.

  • Establish and track key metrics (i.e., CMM inspection backlog, manufacturing order queue times, trending data, etc.) to monitor Metrology Lab effectiveness.

  • Support root-cause analyses and other problem-solving activities to determine effective corrective actions and process improvements.

  • Support data collection and statistical analysis systems to identify trends and improve product quality.

  • Support interactions with customers, including DCMA, as needed.

  • Initiate and implement quality improvement activities (e.g., Kaizen, Six Sigma) to enhance Metrology Lab performance.

  • Report quality issues, trends, and losses to Quality Control Management.

  • Participate in internal and external quality audits.

  • Collaborate with DCMA and other government or customer quality assurance organizations as needed.

  • Interface with supplier and customer quality representatives to resolve issues and implement corrective actions.

  • Perform all other reasonable duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or business administration plus 5-10 years of experience in QA/QC systems implementation and/or management in a manufacturing or product-based environment. Fifteen (15+) years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Experience managing Quality Engineers and Quality Inspectors.

  • Experience with a QMS compliant with AS9100/ISO 9001.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and possess or be able to obtain and maintain an active Secret clearance.

  • Must be a resident of, or willing to relocate to, the Huntsville, AL area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ASQC certification preferred.

  • Experience leading skilled professionals in a matrix environment.

  • Familiarity with Deltek Costpoint accounting software is a plus.

  • Experience with Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Solumina/Quality Module implementation is a plus.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $89,700.00 - $162,150.00
