Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Mechanical Inspector will work directly with the execution team and supervision to ensure that work completed by Bird Construction meets all company and client specifications.Perform and oversee mechanical inspections on construction and industrial projects across Ontario, ensuring compliance with design specifications, applicable codes, and quality standards.
Inspect mechanical installations such as HVAC systems, piping, pressure vessels, and related equipment for conformance with CSA, ASME, and Ontario Building Code (OBC) requirements.
Review and verify mechanical drawings, specifications, test reports, and inspection records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Monitor field construction activities to confirm that mechanical work is executed safely, correctly, and in accordance with approved procedures and project documentation.
Collaborate with engineering, construction, and quality assurance teams, as well as subcontractors and client representatives, to address inspection findings and resolve technical issues.
Participate in coordination meetings related to mechanical quality control and system readiness, providing professional input and recommendations.
Prepare and issue detailed inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and related documentation to track quality performance and compliance.
Identify, document, and follow up on punch list items and deficiencies, coordinating with construction teams to ensure timely resolution.
Maintain awareness of project progress, inspection schedules, and quality metrics, providing updates to the Project Manager and stakeholders.
Offer advanced technical support to the field and project teams based on extensive knowledge of mechanical systems, codes, and inspection procedures.
Post-secondary diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Building Systems, or a related discipline.
Minimum 7 years of experience in mechanical inspection or QA/QC roles, ideally within industrial, nuclear, or ICI (institutional, commercial, industrial) construction sectors.
Strong knowledge of Ontario Building Code (OBC), CSA B51/B52, ASME, and other relevant mechanical standards and regulations.
Proven ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and inspection documentation.
Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, familiarity with SharePoint and quality management software.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills, capable of handling multiple inspection activities under tight deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with engineers, contractors, and client representatives.
