About the Role


The Manager, IP & Commercialisation will work closely with researchers, Colleges and Schools, internal research and innovation partners, and external industry, venture and investment stakeholders to identify, protect and translate/commercialise research outputs. This role will also support the development, implementation and reporting of metrics as well as contribute towards the achievement of organisational goals in line with the University's Knowledge with Action strategy.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and implement translation and commercialisation strategies for RMIT-owned IP to enable effective translation and commercialisation through various models including licensing

  • Working with the broader IP & Commercialisation team to support the identification, evaluation and protection of IP arising from RMIT research

  • Provide expert IP and commercialisation advice, guidance and training to researchers

  • Support major translation funding schemes (e.g. AEA, MRFF programs) through provision of subject matter expertise in translation and commercialisation

  • Negotiate and execute agreements with external partners including IP licences, assignments and other commercialisation agreements, including providing advice into research agreements where required

  • Build strong internal and external networks to enable successful research translation of RMIT IP and research outcomes

About you

You are a commercially minded IP professional with a strong background in research translation and commercialisation. You work well with internal and external stakeholders and are confident working with industry partners, alongside the ability to operate effectively in a complex, values-driven organisation.

You will have:

  • Extensive experience in IP management, research translation and commercialisation

  • Demonstrated success protecting IP and negotiating commercial and legal arrangements

  • Strong understanding of market analysis and commercialisation pathways

  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes to deadlines

  • Highly developed analytical, conceptual and problem-solving capabilities

  • Experience leading or contributing to complex, collaborative projects

  • A relevant degree and/or significant experience in IP or commercialisation is required.
