This role sits within the Howden Re People Team and will work closely with the Group Centres of Excellence (CoEs) (especially Talent, Leadership & Learning) to bring our global learning strategy to life. You’ll design and deliver learning experiences that help our people thrive, from early careers to senior leaders, and build a culture of continuous development across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Learning Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and implement a global learning and development plan aligned with Howden Re’s business goals and culture.
  • Design structured learning pathways that support career progression and technical excellence across all levels of the organisation.
  • Ensure learning solutions are scalable, inclusive, and tailored to meet the needs of different regions and business areas.
  • Develop and deliver comms and engagement strategies which build engagement with learning.

Learning Design & Delivery

  • Lead the full learning cycle: from identifying needs and designing content to delivering training and measuring impact.
  • Provide expert advice to people partners and business leaders to turn development needs into practical, cost-effective learning solutions.
  • Build and maintain a portfolio of learning programmes that support technical capability, professional development, and behavioural growth across all levels of the organisation
  • Partner with internal and external providers to deliver high-quality learning experiences globally.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Use data from people systems, surveys, and feedback to evaluate learning effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Conducting diagnostics and needs analysis to design and develop commercially relevant learning solutions in partnership with the People Partnering team and Group Talent, Leadership and Learning team.
  • Stay up to date with learning trends and technologies to bring fresh ideas and best practices into the business.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning by embedding learning into everyday work and leadership practices.

Operational Excellence

  • Deliver consistent and engaging onboarding experiences for new joiners in partnership with the TA and People Partnering Teams.  
  • Manage learning schedules, track participation, and ensure content is regularly reviewed and updated.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory training requirements.

Inclusion & Engagement

  • Actively contribute to global employee networks and events to support inclusion, diversity, and engagement through learning.
  • Ensure learning content and delivery methods are inclusive and accessible to all employees.

Reporting & Insights

  • Define and track key learning metrics to measure success and inform future strategy.
  • Provide regular reporting and insights to the people team and business leaders to support decision-making and continuous improvement.

Experience and skills

  • Proven experience in an L&D role, with a track record of developing and implementing learning strategies.
  • Experience of working with LMS’s (preferably Workday)
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to use data to inform decisions and measure impact.
  • Experience in defining, designing and delivering both virtual and in-person training sessions.
  • Knowledge of industry-leading learning practices and learning technologies.
  • Experience of working within a (re)insurance organisation.
  • This is a hybrid role and will require travel to our New York City office.

Compensation: $105,000-$125,000 annual base salary plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.
