The Department of Art and Media at Aalto University is seeking a university teacher in Visual art education, integrating arts, sciences, and technology. The position will start on August 1, 2026, or as agreed. The position is permanent and is placed on the first level of the Aalto University lecturer career system.  

Your role  

You will be a member of the teaching team in the major of art education and participate in course planning, teaching, personal student guidance, and curriculum development. You will play a significant role in implementing bachelor’s and master’s level studies in art education that combine the arts, sciences, and technology (for example, digital/post-digital practices). You will supervise theses and participate in student selection and other processes related to the major. You will also take part in the joint teaching of art and media education programs. Administrative tasks are part of the job. 

Collaborative teaching is vital in the art education major, so planning courses and projects together with other teachers is a natural way for you to work. Additionally, you have an independent approach to teaching. The teaching mainly takes place on Aalto University's campus in Otaniemi, Espoo. You are familiar with various online teaching methods in addition to contact teaching. 

Conditions  

We are looking for a university teacher who has experience in working as a visual arts educator. The person selected for the position must have a qualification as a subject teacher of visual arts. In addition, we value experience in teaching at higher education, and the ability to apply research knowledge in teaching.

We consider it an advantage to have skills in creative programming, electronics and digital methods in visual arts and visual arts education, as well as experience in interdisciplinary collaboration. 

We require good oral and written skills in Finnish, as the languages of instruction in the art education are Finnish and Swedish. We consider the ability to work in Swedish to be an advantage. English is used as the working language at Aalto University in many contexts, so fluent English language skills support working in the position and related networks.
