As an Engineering Technician – Level 2 located in Gilbert, AZ, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.     

Northrop Grumman Western Region Manufacturing & Operations is seeking an Engineering Technician Level 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in Gilbert, AZ supporting MLI Manufacturing.

This position entails the manufacture of aerospace thermal blankets, comprised of thin, fragile films sewn and taped together. Working in the Multi-Layer Insulation lab (MLI).

Key responsibilities:

  • This role involves the precise fabrication, assembly, and installation of thermal insulation blankets

  • The ideal candidate will have strong manual dexterity, attention to detail, and experience working with specialized materials in a fast-paced environment

  • Fabricate custom thermal blankets based on engineering drawings, patterns, and technical specifications

  • Measure, cut, sew, and assemble thermal insulation materials such as reflective films and foils

  • Operate industrial sewing machines, hot knives, and other fabrication tools safely and accurately

  • Apply binding, Velcro, snaps, and other fasteners to thermal blankets as required

  • Perform quality control checks to ensure accuracy, proper fit, and compliance with specifications

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics

  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve fabrication issues or suggest improvements

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety protocols

  • Track materials used and maintain documentation for traceability

  • May assist with on-site installation or fitting of thermal blankets in equipment or systems

  • Hot knives and cutting tools

This Manufacturing Technician should be capable and experienced in working in a broad based manufacturing environment. Technician will work with a team of several people including Manufacturing Engineers and Production Planners. This position will ultimately report to an Operations Manager.

The candidate must work well alone and within a team environment. Must be a self-starter, self-motivated, and a team player. Familiarization with ESD, FOD, 5S, and Tool Control.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a High School diploma/GED and a minimum of 2 years of job-related/manufacturing experience is required

  • Must possess good problem solving skills, organizational skills, communication skills, and work with limited supervision

  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office products and process documentation

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • Aerospace Industry manufacturing experience

  • Experience with sewing machines or textile industries

  • Experience with TipQA, Costpoint, Windchill, MES, Solumina, COGNOS, or other ERP and enterprise software

  • Active TS/SCI clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $27.50 - $34.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
