Purpose of Role:

The Project Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end technical, commercial, and execution management of capital and aftermarket projects, from internal handover through to customer handover and close-out. The role ensures that projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in full compliance with contractual, technical, and governance requirements, while acting as the primary coordination point between customers, internal functions, suppliers, and site teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety & Governance

  • Demonstrate 100% commitment to Zero Harm behaviours and support a world-class safety culture.
  • Ensure compliance with Weir HSE policies, Duty of Care requirements, and project governance standards.
  • Adhere to departmental SOPs and all statutory, contractual, and ethical obligations.

Project & Contract Execution

  • Manage projects from internal handover through to final customer handover, including data packs and Operating & Maintenance (O&M) manuals.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across sales, engineering, planning, production, suppliers, branches, commissioning teams, and customers.
  • Develop, maintain, and actively manage project schedules across the full project lifecycle.
  • Ensure delivery within approved contractual scope, schedule, and cost baselines.
  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications, technical standards, and quality requirements.

Technical & Commercial Management

  • Engage with customers on technical and commercial matters throughout project execution.
  • Interface with internal product specialists and engineering teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Review and implement contract terms and conditions within delegated authority.
  • Identify contractual risks and opportunities, supporting variations, claims, and commercial negotiations.
  • Manage post-delivery negotiations and project close-out activities.

Financial, Risk & Change Control

  • Establish and maintain a RADIO log (Risks, Assumptions, Dependencies, Issues, Opportunities).
  • Proactively identify cost overruns and implement corrective actions.
  • Support accurate project forecasting, cost control, and commercial reporting.
  • Manage change control processes to ensure variations are identified, evaluated, approved, and implemented timeously.

Customer & Stakeholder Communication

  • Act as a key point of contact for customers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide regular, structured project updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate transport, site support, and commissioning activities with local and regional branches.
  • Contribute to a positive customer experience through proactive communication and delivery discipline.

Team Contribution & Knowledge Sharing

  • Contribute actively to the Projects team and share knowledge, lessons learned, and best practices.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the project execution environment.

Measures of Success (KPIs)

  • On-time delivery against approved project schedules.
  • Cost and margin performance versus project baseline.
  • Accuracy of project forecasts and commercial reporting.
  • Effective risk identification and mitigation through RADIO management.
  • Customer satisfaction and quality of handover documentation.
  • Compliance with HSE, governance, and contractual requirements.
  • Successful project close-out and cash realisation.


Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Degree / BTech / National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Project Management certification (PMP, PRINCE2 or similar) is advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years project management experience in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Proven experience managing projects from initiation to close-out.
  • ERP system experience (e.g. SAP).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project planning tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
