The Asia General Account Investment function serves as the in-house investment manager for all of Manulife’s Asia Segment’s ~USD 116 billion of life insurance company assets. The team directs investment of funds backing insurance reserves amongst different asset classes and investment managers. It has direct responsibility managing over half of total Asia Segment’s assets in equities, bonds, mortgages, alternatives and derivatives and it oversees the investment management and performance of assets outsourced to Manulife Investment Management Public and Private Markets and other external managers. The team seeks to generate superior risk adjusted returns to support insurance product competitiveness and shareholder value.
The team is comprised of a group of talented and motivated investment professionals, legal, compliance and finance and business advisory specialists who collectively deliver investment capability and infrastructure for the Asia Segment. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic business which is continually growing across the Asia region. Candidate will have an opportunity to contribute to this development alongside global teams on many exciting endeavors.
Position Responsibilities:
Assist team with wide range of finance activities, including legal entity financial reporting reviews, regulatory filings reviews, board material production, management reporting, budget and plan production and billing monitoring.
Perform financial analysis and data retrieves to create useful deliverables for management, including AUM review and trend analysis as well as financial statement analysis.
Support various finance enhancement activities, including onboarding budgeting platform, expenses analysis and tracking and management fee review, etc.
Contribute to implementation of new processes/systems with automation opportunities to create operational efficiencies and reporting enhancements.
Support creation of presentations for senior leadership in various platforms including strategic business proposals consolidating key investment and business driven information.
Opportunity to partake in topical projects with exposure across a range of asset classes and Asia markets ranging from investment capability expansion to new regulation implementation.
Opportunity to gain understanding of business infrastructure for the investment group and learn the portfolio structure to assist with portfolio onboarding and review. Support on a range of General Account Investments related projects as directed by team leads.
We are looking for someone with:
Undergraduate or Graduate with a major in Accounting, Finance, Business or related disciplines
Internship experience in asset management or financial services industry is beneficial
Knowledge of financial reporting & analysis, finance transformation, IFRS, local Asia GAAPs, US GAAP standards and capital regimes are an asset
Adeptness in usage of computing technology including Microsoft Power point presentations, Excel (knowledge of advanced formulas, pivots, macro/ VBA knowledge, Alteryx, Anaplan) and other systems
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work productively with multiple parties at all different levels in the global organization
Sound analytical and organizational skills are highly valuable
Ability to work adaptably and independently within the growing business
