What You'll Be Doing
CIBC Capital Markets serves as the wholesale arm of CIBC, offering a broad range of investment banking, global markets, credit, and research products and services to government, institutional, corporate, and retail clients across North America and key markets globally. Employees within CIBC Capital Markets work in highly disciplined, cross-functional teams, leveraging industry expertise to deliver innovative capital solutions and advisory services across a wide array of sectors.
As an Associate, you will provide comprehensive analytical and research support to professionals within the Trading Credit Corporate Banking (TC CB) team. Under the guidance of Senior Relationship Managers and other senior team members, you will help manage counterparty credit relationships and trading credit exposure across a broad range of global market products, including derivatives, securities financing transactions (SFTs), margin facilities, and trade finance products. The portfolio includes complex, demanding, and high-profile Financial Institution clients, such as Banks, Broker-Dealers, Custodians, Pension Funds, Asset Managers, Alternative Funds, Insurance Companies, and Government Entities throughout the Americas (Canada, US, LATAM, and the Caribbean).

How You'll Succeed
Client & Stakeholder Management - Help build and maintain relationships with CIBC Global Markets marketers and traders, partner with Risk Management, and collaborate across business lines to support integrated client coverage, connectivity, and CIBC’s broader strategic objectives. Respond promptly to trading floor credit facility requests. Assist with end-to-end credit onboarding, conduct due diligence meetings, manage credit amendments, negotiate trading documentation (e.g., ISDA/CSA, GMRA, GMSLA), and efficiently handle other related trading and collateral requests.
Credit Risk Assessment & Monitoring - Conduct financial statement reviews, data analysis, and exposure assessments to evaluate counterparty credit risk. Provide sound, timely, and well-communicated recommendations for the structuring of credit facilities and transactions, supported by thorough analysis and interpretation of relevant financial, industry, business, and market information. Assist in the ongoing assessment of credit quality and exposure by staying current on counterparties’ financial conditions, industry trends, and economic developments. Proactively identify and communicate any relevant changes in a client’s financial condition or business. Monitor exposures and recommend credit actions within internal risk appetite and policy frameworks, ensuring compliance with internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
Portfolio Management & Reporting - Assist with ongoing portfolio management, including comprehensive annual reviews of credit files and relationships, interim amendments, portfolio monitoring, compliance requirements, and other internal reporting as needed. Ensure portfolio alignment with risk management policies and evolving methodologies. Maintain well-organized and accurate credit records to support the preparation and execution of credit submissions.
Research, Analysis & Process Improvement - Provide a wide range of analytical and research support to senior TC CB relationship managers, internal partners, and to clients. Proactively identify opportunities to streamline and simplify processes, contribute to continuous improvement, and leverage technology and internal AI tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Develop proficiency in internal trading, credit, and risk monitoring systems, and adapt quickly to new tools and applications.

Who You Are
You have attained relevant education. An MBA/MS, CFA, or other professional designation is preferred.
You can demonstrate relevant professional experience. An understanding of credit risks associated with trading floor business products is preferred, as well as broad working knowledge of derivatives, SFTs, margin facilities, trade finance products, and other trading floor products. You have a solid understanding of relevant industries, including banks, broker-dealers, asset managers, alternative funds, pension funds, insurance companies, and other financial institutions, as well as fundamental market drivers, capital markets activity, and key risk factors.
You possess strong attention to detail and advanced analytical skills, including experience analyzing financial statements to identify and assess credit risks. You are adept at researching and monitoring large volumes of information from various sources, synthesizing key issues, gathering data, and performing ongoing analyses. You are intellectually curious and motivated to deepen your expertise in credit, markets, and client risk assessment.
You are an impactful communicator. You have excellent oral and written communication skills, enabling you to convey complex concepts and financial data effectively to senior management, front-office partners, and other internal stakeholders. You collaborate well, listen actively, communicate respectfully, and know when to seek guidance or offer support.

You are technically savvy. Strong Excel skills are essential; financial modeling experience is a plus. Experience with credit systems, exposure monitoring tools, and capital markets documentation processes is an asset. You are comfortable using technology platforms to improve efficiency and effectiveness and are interested in learning new systems and tools, including AI-enabled solutions.
