Job Description Summary:
The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Geriatrics at the University of Kansas Medical Center invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position. The role will develop an independent geroscience research program focused on fundamental mechanisms of aging and healthspan, including epigenetics and processes such as cellular senescence, with the goal of advancing therapeutic discovery. Job Duties
- Develop and sustain a basic/translational geroscience research program focused on the mechanisms underlying aging, epigenetics, mitochondria, metabolism, inflammaging, cell death and senescence, chronic pain, healthspan, and functional capacity (both physical and cognitive).
- Collaborate as part of multi-investigator research initiatives.
- Seek and secure extramural funding from federal and non-federal sources to support research activities.
- Publish research in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and present in local, national, and international conferences.
- Participate in institutional committees supporting the research and teaching missions of the University.
- Actively engage in interdisciplinary collaborations that advance the Department’s translational research goals.
- Contribute to the training and education of graduate/doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows in research settings and in formal and informal group education formats.

Required Qualifications
Education: MD or PhD degree
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.
Work Experience:
- Established record of scholarly productivity in basic, translational, or clinical geroscience research, particularly in areas such as epigenetics, mitochondrial function, metabolism, inflammaging, cell death, cellular senescence, chronic pain, nutrition, and functional capacity (both physical and cognitive).
- Evidence of externally funded research.
- Experience teaching or mentoring students at all degree and post-graduate levels.
Preferred Qualifications
Work Experience:
- Expertise in age-related basic and/or translational research, with a focus on underlying physiology and/or mechanisms including (though not limited to) epigenetics, cellular senescence, metabolism, inflammation, or mitochondrial function as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration and publication.
