Position Title: Youth Support Worker – Part Time 
Classification: Crisis QLD Level 1 
Location: Bundaberg 
Status: Part Time – 16 hours per week 

Why this role matters 

The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of the largest providers of homelessness services across the country. Our philosophy is that every person should be afforded dignity and respect and that no one should be without a safe, affordable, and secure home. We provide services and supports to adults, and families with accompanying children in the form of accommodation, case management, assertive outreach, financial assistance, community connection and referral services.

The Role 

This position provides practical and emotional support to young people experiencing homelessness or crisis. You will assist clients by linking them with appropriate community services and help maintain a safe, clean, and secure environment within a 24-hour accommodation setting. Working closely with the broader team, you will contribute to achieving the best possible outcomes for young people. 

 

How You Will Make an Impact 

As a Youth Support Worker, your responsibilities include: 

  • Building positive, supportive relationships with clients, ensuring respect, dignity, and confidentiality at all times. 

  • Collaborating with all team members to support effective program delivery and cohesive service provision. 

  • Planning, delivering, and evaluating life skills and other relevant programs for young people. 

  • Providing information and referrals to government, non-government, and community organisations as needed. 

  • Assisting clients to establish or rebuild healthy family and social connections. 

  • Providing safe transport for clients using an organisation-leased vehicle. 

  • Escalating any critical incidents to the Team Leader promptly. 

  • Delivering direct support to clients within a case management framework. 

 

What You Will Bring 

  • A qualification in social work, youth work, community services, or a related field. 

  • Experience working with young people experiencing homelessness and/or crisis within a Case Management Framework. 

  • Experience supporting culturally and linguistically diverse young people and those from a range of religious backgrounds. 

  • An understanding of the issues affecting people experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, mental health challenges, and other disabilities (desirable). 

  • Demonstrated ability to manage unpredictable behaviours and situations, including those involving violence, substance use, and mental health concerns. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to assist with data collection and report writing. 

  • A valid driver’s licence. 

  • A current Working with Children Check (Blue Card). 

  • A current First Aid certificate.
