The Position

Roche is hiring for a greenfield facility in Shanghai and we are looking for a Lead who has strong execution skills and experience to actively support the manager in establishing operations. Collaborate closely with the project team to execute this strategic initiative—including facility design, qualifications, manufacturing readiness and start-up. Additionally, the role will oversee daily operations to ensure long-term success.

The Warehouse Lead is responsible for achieving warehouse goals and providing leadership and oversight overall routine operational and administrative activities which occur within the warehouse process steps. Ensuring all activities are executed safely and timely in full compliance and consistency with GMP/ SHE requirements and Roche’s corporate principles, quality policies and standards.

  • Enable and empower the team to achieve site vision by leveraging creative leadership competencies and exemplifying the Leadership Commitments.

  • Play a critical part in strategic project realization including warehouse design, qualification and operational readiness and start-up.

  • The role leads to establishing a solid foundation in the warehouse while demonstrating strong on-site execution skills, problem-solving abilities to ensure efficient, compliant, and quality-standard operations.

Engineering Project Support and Operation Readiness:

  • Participate in new facility design and construction, including but not limited to process design, equipment selection, URS review, FAT, SAT, IOPQ etc. to contribute to project delivery.  

  • As a key role, support to establish an effective operation system in alignment with Roche’s standards, including warehouse management system, people training and qualification system. 

  • Lead to establish the procedures for all activities in the warehouse.

  • Support manager to establish the warehouse training program and implement it, ensure only qualified people perform the activities.

Routine Operation:

Operations Oversight & Leadership

  • Support the warehouse manager in planning, organizing and executing daily warehouse activities, including receiving, picking, packing, staging and dispatching of all materials, including dangerous and chemical goods.

  • Lead and supervise the warehouse team, conduct daily briefings, assign tasks, monitor performance and provide on-the-job coaching to ensure productivity and compliance.

  • Act as the primary backup for the warehouse manager in his absence, making decisions on operational priorities and resolving urgent issues.

Inventory Management & Optimization

  • Manage cycle stocktaking, physical inventory reconciliations and stock accuracy initiatives, investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies with root-cause analysis.

  • Optimize warehouse layout, storage allocation and material flow to reduce waste and improve space utilization.

  • Monitor key inventory metrics (e.g., stock turnover rate, order accuracy) and implement improvements to meet or exceed departmental targets.

Regulatory Compliance & GMP Adherence

  • Ensure strict compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), local/global regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, EMA), and SOPs for all warehouse activities.

  • Oversee documentation integrity, including batch records, material labels, transfer forms, and WMS entries, to maintain full traceability of all materials.

  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance (QA) to support internal audits, regulatory inspections, and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) implementation related to warehouse operations.

Safety, Equipment & Continuous Improvement

  • Enforce occupational health and safety protocols, including PPE compliance, hazard identification, and incident reporting, lead safety meetings and initiatives to maintain a zero-accident culture.

  • Oversee maintenance of material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.) and warehouse infrastructure, coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure valid operator certifications.

  • Drive continuous improvement projects (e.g., 5S implementation, process optimization, automation adoption) to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Liaise closely with the manufacturing, procurement, quality and engineering department to align warehouse operations with production schedule, delivery deadline, and customer requirement.

  • Communicate regularly with the warehouse manager on operational performance, risks, and resource needs (e.g., staffing, equipment, training.

Qualification and Experience
Education/Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics or related field (Pharmaceutical / Biological is preferred) and above
● Qualification in dangerous and chemical goods management


Job Required Competencies
● 10 or more years of experience in a warehouse or logistics role within the pharmaceutical or a similarly regulated industry, MNC Bio-pharma preferred
● Strong knowledge of cGMP and regulations relevant to the pharmaceutical industry, especially in the biological industry
● Experience operating a forklift and other material handling equipment
● Able to think strategically and translate strategies into actionable plans
● Fluent communication skills in English to collaborate with team members and stakeholders
