Job Description

The Vice President of Development is a strategic, visionary leader who will guide SIL US’s Development team from its start-up stage into a thriving, high-capacity fundraising operation. This role is responsible for designing and executing a bold fundraising strategy, cultivating transformational donor relationships (primarily within the U.S.), and equipping a high-performing Development team to deliver results.
Blending a biblical theology of generosity with proven best practices, the Vice President of Development will set the pace to triple philanthropic revenue within five years while expanding donor awareness of SIL’s innovative global language solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising & Donor Relations

  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies that diversify income and expand major donor funding.

  • Manage a personal portfolio of new major donors and foundations, cultivating and stewarding long-term relationships.

  • Ensure high-quality donor care, including accurate transactions, timely receipting, and responsive communication.

  • Oversee consistent, donor-centered messaging across campaigns, events, and communications.

  • Identify and pursue new funding opportunities and emerging donor markets.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Set clear performance expectations and establish moves management processes and portfolio management.

  • Coordinate and support Board and senior-leader involvement in donor engagement and solicitations.

  • Support the Grants Office in hitting growth targets while broadening and diversifying its reach.

  • Strategic Planning & Growth

  • Design and oversee a multi-year fundraising strategy with annual goals and measurable outcomes.

  • Lead the Development team’s transition from start-up to an established, high-capacity function.

  • Monitor fundraising trends and adjust strategies to remain competitive and effective.

  • Prepare quarterly progress updates for executive leadership and the Board.

Operational Management & Accountability

  • Manage the Development budget, ensuring responsible allocation of resources.

  • Oversee use of CRM systems for accurate donor records, reporting, and pipeline management.

  • Deliver regular performance reports, including KPIs, revenue growth, donor retention, and portfolio development.

  • Ensure compliance with fundraising standards, policies, and best practices.
