Human Resources Manager – Vienna, Austria

Join Western Union Bank as Human Resources Manager, where you will play a pivotal role in steering HR strategy and execution across Austria and Germany.  

In this role, you will align HR practices with business objectives, ensure compliance with local regulations, and contribute to building an engaging, value-driven workplace that fosters growth, collaboration, and high performance. 

Hybrid: 3 days at the office per week 

 

Role Responsibilities 

  • Act as trusted advisor and HR Business Partner to senior management in Austria, and Germany.   

  • Partner with business leaders to design and implement HR strategies aligned with business goals and the global HR vision. 

  • More specifically manage the HR function for Western Union International Bank (WUIB) in Austria, overseeing HR operations, regulatory compliance, and employee engagement initiatives for the regulated banking entity. And act as HR Business Partner for Money Transfer and retail business in Germany. 

  • Ensure HR compliance with Austrian and German employment laws, including close collaboration with regulatory bodies and works councils. 

  • Partner closely with HR Centers of Expertise (Compensation & Benefits, Talent Acquisition, HRIS, Legal Employment, Employee Relations, and HR Operations) to deliver a consistent and excellent employee experience. 

  • Drive performance management, talent development, and succession planning initiatives to build strong leadership pipelines. 

  • Champion employee engagement and implement initiatives that strengthen organizational culture and teamwork. 

  • Support organizational change and transformation projects, ensuring smooth adoption and communication across teams. 

  • Represent HR in internal and external audits and ensure compliance with banking-specific HR regulations (MFA). 

 

Role Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Law, or related field (Master’s degree preferred). 

  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic HR business partnering and operational HR leadership, gained through extensive experience in HR management within multinational or matrix organizations. 

  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and cultures. 

  • Proven ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution. 

  • Strong knowledge of Austrian and German labor law, with experience working with works councils. 

  • Fluency in English and German is required; additional languages are an asset. 

  • Experience in banking or financial services and in German employment jurisdiction is strongly preferred.

Salary 

We are under legal obligation to indicate the minimum salary, which is 65.000  EUR gross per year for this position. However, our attractive compensation packages follow current market salaries and can therefore be significantly above the indicated minimum salary.
