Purpose
• The Vessel Manager has the technical management within a ship group headed by a Fleet Manager.


Interrelations
• The Vessel Manager reports to the Fleet Manager and the General Manager as appropriate.

In matters related to assigned vessels, the Vessel Manager also interrelates with:
• Ship staff in connection with briefing visit, selection and screening.
• Other internal and external support functions
• Owner, class society, insurance handlers and other external bodies.
• The Vessel Manager interrelates with assigned Project Team from Docking and Special Projects group for matters related to his vessel Docking Projects.

Main responsibilities
• The Vessel Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient and environment-conscious operation of the

vessels assigned, typical 4-6 vessels of own and 3 -5 back up vessels (when actual VM is travelling).

• To ensure vessel/s comply with all relevant rules & regulations with special emphasis on the ISM

code, the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 as well as flag state, port state and the industry's special requirements and regulations, and render support to ships as appropriate. VM consults HSEQ for updates in these matters During the absence of a Vessel Manager, the backup vessel manager / Fleet Manager in the respective Group assumes the responsibility. Give support on matters related to technical operations as required. Keep technical statistics.

• Attend to additional duties as decided during the annual employee dialogue.

• Analyze and respond to Undesired Events.

• Give support to his assigned vessels in preparing for Internal/ External Audits and PSC inspections.

• Visits the vessel at least two times in a year- and sails at least once, to get hands-on feel of vessel condition/ and staff onboard.

• Participate in evaluation of Shipboard Management Systems Review

• Arrange Management Reviews and ensure actions decided upon are implemented.

• HSSE is a line management responsibility and shall be defined in the job description / role profile.

• The person shall remain fully responsible for the implementation of Health, Safety, Security and Environment standards.

• The Vessel Manager is designated as key shore-based personnel for the assigned vessels and shall ensure effective continuity of vessel-related responsibilities during any temporary or permanent change of shore-based personnel.

Accountabilities

• Prepares yearly budget, based on the condition and repairs due for the vessels, keeping required standard and safe running of vessel ; and obtains approval from owner

• Monitors and manages vessel within owner approved budget

• Welfare of staff onboard

• VM inspections and follow ups as per requirements.

• Keep owner updated on the budget situation time to time; and acts as per their advice; maintains amicable relationship with owner.

Qualifications

Mandatory requirements

• Technical/maritime qualifications with seagoing experience as Chief Engineer on PCC and Bulk Vessels for at least 2 years and can be new ashore. Has experience on working with DF engine vessels would be added advantage.

• Good command of oral and written English.

• Basic computer knowledge.

• Environmental focused

• Excellent communication skills.

• Good interpersonal skills in order to develop close relationships with shipboard staff, vessel owners, charterers as well as internal and external support functions.
