ALLEGION –UX Researcher
About the Role
Allegion’s Global Software Solutions organization is seeking a UX Researcher for its Research and Design Solutions team. The UX Researcher will be responsible for leading research efforts throughout the entire product design life cycle. This role will be responsible for conducting early-stage user and market research, developing research strategies, mapping user personas, their journeys, use environments, and use scenarios; designing and conducting various forms of user and product testing, and iterating product designs to ensure they meet or exceed customer expectations. The UX Researcher will collaborate closely with UX designers, product managers, software systems engineers, software developers, subject matter experts, customers, and others. This position will influence without authority, maintain an unwavering focus on the customer experience, and build credible, reliable relationships with stakeholders.
We’re looking for candidates who have a growth mindset, experience working with product teams, understand how to drive consistent product discovery and validation, and who can share real-world examples of how their approach to research has brought successful products to market. What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with UX designers to develop the research that will inform the creation of user personas and journey maps
- Conduct a variety of different design research activities based on the needs of the product teams you support (this may include quantitative surveys, qualitative interviews, persona construction, solution validation, usability tests, heuristic evaluations, etc.)
- Work closely with UX designers and product managers to identify research opportunities, develop research plans, recruit participants, execute the research, and present your findings to a cross-functional team
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders and act as a strategic partner in product decisions
- You’re an experienced UX Researcher with a track record of working with Agile Scrum teams to understand their research needs and regularly perform research to inform the products they’re delivering
- You’re able to quickly understand new business domains & processes and be creative about research methods, recruiting niche research participants, and selling the value of research to a variety of business and technical stakeholders
- You have a background in a variety of research tools and methods, including contextual inquiry, user interviews, persona & journey map development, heuristic analysis, card sorting, usability & desirability studies, quantitative surveys (and you’re capable of conducting the research remotely when necessary)
- You possess excellent communication and presentation skills and can clearly and impartially communicate research findings to product and business partners
- You’re comfortable organizing research content to help teammates find and apply the results of your work
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- 4+ years of UX research and testing experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, Cognitive Science, Human Factors, Anthropology, Human Computer Interaction, Design, a related field, or equivalent experience
- Case studies showcasing specific examples of completed software applications that your research has influenced (major bonus points for telling the story of the user needs, success metrics, and what you learned along the way)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Understanding of modalities, design patterns, and affordances common among digital applications (primarily web + native mobile)
- Project management skills, e.g., organization, time management, planning, negotiation
- You’re current with the latest research tools, methods, trends, and technology
- You have a solid grasp of Design Thinking principles, UI/layout concepts, and how technology influences design & vice versa
- Experience working with Agile teams & Lean methodologies
- Experience utilizing remote testing and facilitation tools, e.g., Maze and MS Teams
- Understanding of Android and iOS human interface guidelines
- Workshop facilitation skills
- Knowledge of modern digital design and prototyping tools, including Figma
