What You Will Do:
Lead user-centered design for web and mobile applications serving health and public-sector clients, translating research and product goals into intuitive, accessible interfaces.
Plan and conduct user research and usability testing (remote and in-person) to gather insights, synthesize findings, and iterate on designs.
Create wireframes, high-fidelity visual designs, interactive prototypes, and detailed interaction specifications using tools such as Figma or Adobe XD.
Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, content strategists, and stakeholders to define requirements, align on priorities, and ensure designs are implemented as intended.
Contribute to and maintain component libraries and design systems to promote consistency, scalability, and efficient delivery across projects.
Advocate for accessibility and inclusive design (WCAG) throughout the design process and validate accessibility during testing and handoff.
Use analytics and qualitative feedback to measure the success of design solutions and drive continuous improvement.
Communicate design rationale and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, and mentor junior designers as needed.
What You Will Need:
Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
3+ years of professional UX design experience creating digital products for web and mobile platforms.
US Citizenship is required.
A strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end UX work: research, interaction design, visual design, and prototypes.
Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision).
Experience conducting user research and usability testing, synthesizing insights, and translating them into design solutions.
Working knowledge of accessibility best practices (WCAG) and experience designing for inclusive experiences.
Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML/CSS/JS) sufficient to collaborate effectively with engineering teams.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills in cross-functional teams.
What Would Be Nice To Have:
Experience designing digital products for healthcare, public health, or government clients.
Experience contributing to or maintaining a design system at scale.
Knowledge of quantitative product analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Mixpanel) and A/B testing concepts.
Familiarity with accessibility testing tools and assistive technologies.
Experience working on federally funded or grant-supported projects, or familiarity with HRSA/HHS mission and processes.
Prior experience mentoring designers or leading small design teams.
