Trade Compliance Analyst

As a Trade Compliance Analyst, you will be part of a dedicated team based in Mississauga, Ontario supporting in all functions related to Canada Customs Compliance, and reporting to the Trade Compliance Manager. This position will be accountable for the administrative activities associated with the import and export operations as well as providing data analysis for metrics and other critical reporting. The Trade Compliance Analyst must exhibit strong research and analytical skills, often being asked to interpret import and export data, and determine compliance risk, as well as interpret regulations available to remedy.

What you will get to do

  • Manage day to day import inquiries with internal and external contacts
  • Assign proper classification codes for imported merchandise ensuring the correct duty is paid. Monitors changes to the Canadian tariff and duty rates
  • Resolve all day-to-day operational issues such as import documentation discrepancies, classification, valuation, etc.  to ensure successful and timely customs clearance
  • Manage CSA import data for compliance to the program, assess and submit X-types as needed.
  • Ensure that import entries are properly valued including the reporting of all adjustments to the invoice amount such as tooling payments and assists
  • Extract and analyze trade data from various reports, Customs Broker recaps, and trade software queries to be actioned for anomalies
  • Run and monitor key performance metrics on Customs Brokers and Canadian Customs payments
  • Generate trade data statistics and perform audits of Customs entries for accurate tariff classification, country of origin, and valuation
  • Ability to run risk analysis on import data, to identify areas in need of compliance adjustment and/or available refund opportunities
  • Manage product return procedures, export compliance & apply Drawback in CARM where applicable
  • Support management of SBD Canada Recordkeeping program and CSA program requirements
  • Assist in all projects relative to CBSA requests & audits to ensure responses are timely and accurate
  • Audit Brokerage billing and import/export documentation for compliance and payment
  • Provide support for all other duties within the department as necessary

Who You are

  • College/University Degree, CCS or CTCS designation preferred
  • Knowledge & understanding of Canadian Customs regulations and Import/Export procedures including CARM portal capability.
  • Knowledge of CSA, SWI, ECCC, HTS Classification, Drawback & the CARM Client Portal.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in compliance; Certified Customs Specialist a plus
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of initiative
  • Must be detailed oriented and able to handle multiple tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Access, and Word
  • Familiar with SAP & other enterprise systems.
  • High level of computer aptitude including extract of data between various software packages
  • Ability to travel as needed

  • Anticipated compensation for this role is $60,000-$65,000 in annual base salary.  Salary is based on market location, and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
