Your Opportunity

At Kingston House, our mission is to provide a stable, nurturing and therapeutic environment that supports the holistic growth, wellbeing, and recovery of children and young people under 16 who are alone and at risk of, or currently experiencing, homelessness. We offer safe, medium to long‑term accommodation for up to five young people at a time, creating a home‑like setting where they can feel supported, understood, and empowered.

This is an on-site position that plays a vital role in supporting family restoration by working closely with children, young people, and their families to address conflict, strengthen relationships, and improve overall stability and care. You will be part of an integrated, trauma-informed and child‑centred service that operates within a collaborative Care Team model, ensuring that support is flexible, therapeutic and tailored to each young person’s needs.

Kingston House operates 24-hours 7 days a week with a rotating roster; therefore, applicants MUST be available to work a mix of day, evening, overnight, weekend, and public holiday shifts as required.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Build honest, trusting, therapeutic relationships with young people, interpreting behaviour through a trauma‑informed lens to support positive attitudinal and behavioural change.
  • Support young people toward achieving case plan goals, with a strong emphasis on family/kin restoration and wellbeing.
  • Provide guidance that builds daily living skills, including personal care, hygiene, meal preparation, household routines, and creating a safe and nurturing home environment.
  • Induct young people into the service, ensuring they understand expectations, rights, responsibilities, and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate within the Care Team and broader support networks to ensure cohesive, child‑centred care and effective case management.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential case notes, reports, and electronic client records in line with organisational protocols.
  • Identify and escalate concerns relating to safety, risk, or wellbeing, ensuring proactive and appropriate responses consistent with child-safe practice.

Requirements for Success

  • Relevant qualification in youth work, social work, human services or equivalent; Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training is highly regarded.
  • Experience supporting young people in residential care, youth services, homelessness services, disability support, or therapeutic environments—minimum 2 years preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with young people experiencing moderate complexity, including at‑risk behaviours, while maintaining firm, calm, and professional boundaries.
  • Proven capability in trauma‑informed, strengths‑based and goal‑focused practice, including case planning and brief therapeutic interventions.
  • A positive, person‑centred approach grounded in the belief that all young people can grow, self‑right, and thrive with the right support.
  • Strong communication, conflict management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to remain composed, constructive, and solutions‑focused in challenging situations.
  • A proactive, self‑starting mindset with the ability to bring ideas and activities to life, engage young people meaningfully, and contribute positively to team culture.
  • Must have First Aid & CPR Certificate.
  • Full driver licence with no restrictions.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
