Salary Range: $125776 - $182316 Per Year

Job Summary: In this position you will serve as a Veterinary Medical Officer (Emergency Response Program Coordinator) in the Ruminant Health Center and is responsible for supporting all aspects of the management of Vector Borne Disease programs. You will also serves as a resource for the agency on all entomological matters and issues.

Major Duties:

  • The duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Provides national leadership and is a recognized authority for the development and support of operational and strategic requirements of foreign animal disease investigation and incident management,
  • Resolves high-profile foreign animal disease investigations or in support of immediate response activities.
  • Collaborates on policy development and promotes and educates colleagues and stakeholders on policies developed through presentations or report development and delivery;
  • Conducts exhaustive background research to obtain and assimilate the latest biological, ecological, and control information on known and potential arthropod vectors of foreign animal diseases.
  • Works with entomologists in VS to formulate comprehensive programs for control of arthropod vectors of foreign animal diseases.
  • Prepares correspondence, reports analytical summaries and other written materials; serve on committees and study groups; prepare and present talks on subject matter specialty;

Qualifications: Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. TIME-IN-GRADE: Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Veterinary Medical Officer (0701): All applicants to 0701 series must meet the Basic Requirement outlined in the Education section below. In addition to the basic requirement above, applicants must also meet the following: FOR THE GS-14 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-13 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates: Collaborating on policy development, as well as managing, planning, and coordinating response activities among States, laboratories, and other entities following best veterinary practices. Preparing and distributing guidance and recommendations to field personnel related to prevention and control measures for vectors, vector borne diseases, and emerging diseases. Exploring, creating, and evaluating possible solutions to solve veterinary and public health problems. Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level. TRANSCRIPTS are required. This position requires specific coursework or a degree in a specific field to be basically qualified. this education must have been successfully completed and obtained from an accredited school, college or university. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
