The Position

As Technical Outsourcing Leader  (Department: ETO-C) you are part of "Global Technical Development" in Pharma Technical Operations in Basel. Global Technical Development" (PTD) is an organization of over two thousand people globally that are integral for the mission of Roche to develop meaningful medicines for patients. Therefore, PTD actively collaborates and develops innovative technical solutions to bridge early-stage, late-stage and commercial product needs. The mandate of the group is to reliably deliver the pipeline and supply quality products to patients. Process Chemistry & Catalysis designs and develops robust and cost effective Drug Substance manufacturing processes using state of the art science and methodologies and the external workbench to deliver the company’s portfolio of synthetic molecules from entry into human through transfer to commercial manufacturing, including optimal support for regulatory submissions 

The Opportunity

In this role, you will support drug substance (DS) development and supply for clinical studies by sourcing regulatory starting materials, intermediates and services from externally under scientific, technical, environmental and economic considerations. You are the single point of contact (SPOC) for the Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) for all technical and project related aspects and be the SPOC for all Roche internal stakeholders.

  • Managing of outsourcing projects on a technical level at external partners. Act as a single point of contact for our external partners. Act as a single point of contact for various internal stakeholders (e.g. Chemical project leader, SMEs from Synthesis, Analytics, Pilot Plant or Procurement and colleagues in the Research and Development Organizations and Commercial Groups).

  • Developing of in-depth expertise and knowledge of our external partners to identify best project fit for the development and supply of small molecule starting materials, intermediates and drug substances externally

  • Take responsibility for outsourced projects. Drive project to achieve planned results in terms of project deliverables, meeting timelines, risk mitigating activities and cost budget.

  • Seek close co-operation with procurement, SHE-department, quality units and small molecule MSAT group to ensure that projects are run according to internal Roche guidelines. Who you are

 

  • PhD in Chemistry. Significant experience (approx. 7 years) in the development of small molecule drug substances (e.g. Process Development or Manufacturing).

  • Demonstrated project leadership experience. The ideal candidate seeks to combine strong technical- and managerial skills in this position. Interested to work in cross-functional teams across borders. Willingness to travel (up to 10-15%).

  • Excellent communication skills, presents well on complex topics and is able to formulate clear key messages

  • Good overview about regulatory and GMP requirements for development compounds in different clinical phases. Experience in the areas of SHE and Quality-systems is a PLUS.

  • Good interpersonal skills to interact with a high number of internal and external stakeholders. Ability to build relationships across departments and functions. Awareness of different cultures and behaviors. Strong collaboration, negotiation and problem solving skills. Fluency in English and German, any other language (e.g. Italian, French, Mandarin) is a plus.
