Duties & Responsibilities:

Job Summary:

The Technical Engineer 2 at Viavi Solutions Inc. will contribute to the design, development, and support of cutting-edge telecommunications and network testing solutions. This role involves applying engineering principles to solve complex technical challenges, ensuring product quality and customer satisfaction.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the full product development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Develop and maintain software and hardware components for Viavi's advanced network testing and monitoring platforms.
  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of products, identifying and resolving defects and performance issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, QA, and customer support, to ensure successful product delivery.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to customers and internal teams.
  • Assist field technicians with the use of Viavi test instruments.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and user manuals.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies and methodologies to enhance product capabilities and development processes.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
  • Adhere to established engineering best practices and quality standards.

    Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

    Job Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or comparable work experience.
    • 2-4 years of experience in a technical engineering role, preferably within the telecommunications or networking industry.
    • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., C++, Python, Java).
    • Proficiency in Linux Operating Systems.
    • Solid understanding of network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, Ethernet, IPv4/IPv6).
    • Experience with software development tools and methodologies (e.g., version control systems like Git, Agile/Scrum).
    • Experience with Fiber Optics OTDR, Network Testing  Ethernet, Fiber Optics cable inspection, Fiber Optics Tier1 Loss testing.
    • Experience with Network testing via RF (radio frequency).
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration and technical documentation.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

    Preferred Experience:

    • Familiarity with test and measurement equipment.
    • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) or virtualization technologies.
    • DS1,DS3, ISDN, OTN, Sonet, DSL testing, PON networks ,VOIP Experience.
