ERM

Technical Due Diligence Lead

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Full time

Growth Leader, M&A, Infrastructure Technical DD,

(Middle East)

ERM is a global consulting firm and the world’s largest pure‑play sustainability consultancy. We partner with leading organisations to address complex sustainability challenges and unlock commercial opportunity across rapidly evolving markets.

The Middle East is one of ERM’s most significant growth markets and a region where client demand for infrastructure technical due diligence is rapidly increasing. As countries diversify away from oil dependency and invest heavily in renewables, diversified energy, water infrastructure, ports, pipelines and large‑scale utilities, the need for robust, sustainability‑aligned technical advice has never been greater. Regional investors, sovereign wealth funds and major infrastructure owners are accelerating investment strategies, supported by a market that has passed peak oil and is now focused on long‑term economic transformation.

ERM’s integrated Infrastructure Technical Due Diligence offering is expanding in response to this shift. Our clients rely on us to evaluate technical, environmental, social and commercial risks that affect value, operational resilience and long‑term performance. We bring a multidisciplinary advisory model strengthened by specialist expertise acquired through strategic recruitment and the acquisitions of RCG, E4Tech and Element Energy. However, the Middle East remains an area where we have comparatively limited resource, despite the scale of opportunity.

To accelerate our growth, we are seeking a Partner or Director with deep regional relationships, cultural fluency and a strong commercial track record. The opportunity is not solely within global private equity firms. The real strategic focus lies in engaging with the major regional investors and southern and eastern client groups that are shaping the Middle East’s infrastructure transition and have the capital to deploy. We need a leader who can speak their language, understand their priorities and open doors that cannot be accessed through international networks alone.

This is a pivotal role for ERM, offering the chance to build and lead our technical due diligence presence in a market experiencing rapid change, high investment activity and strong appetite for sustainability‑aligned infrastructure advice.

Role Profile:

Client Leadership and Market Growth and Technical Advisory Engagement

  • Build and deepen relationships with key Middle Eastern investors, sovereign wealth funds, infrastructure developers and diversified energy companies, engaging directly with senior regional decision makers in a culturally relevant and commercially grounded manner.

  • Position ERM as a trusted long‑term adviser across infrastructure, renewables, utilities, industrial assets and large‑scale energy transition projects, while identifying and securing new opportunities in sectors such as solar, wind, hydrogen, ports, pipelines, water desalination and broader low‑carbon infrastructure.

  • Alongside this market leadership, communicate the value of ERM’s integrated technical due diligence and advisory services in a way that resonates with regional clients, particularly the benefits of combining ESG, EHS and technical expertise to drive robust investment outcomes.

  • Draw on a strong understanding of institutional investing, private equity and infrastructure asset management to frame technical findings in a commercially relevant, transaction‑driven way. This includes understanding how regional investors evaluate technical performance, capex and opex plans, lifecycle risks, resilience and long‑term value creation during buy‑side and sell‑side processes, as well as throughout wider advisory studies.

Technical and Commercial Due Diligence

  • Lead multidisciplinary technical due diligence assignments covering engineering, asset condition, operational readiness, sustainability risks, energy systems and long‑term asset performance.

  • Ensure assessments integrate technical, commercial, financial and regulatory realities relevant to Middle Eastern investment processes.

  • Provide clients with clear, commercially relevant recommendations that support valuation decisions, investment committee preparation and risk mitigation.

Leadership and Capability Building

  • Establish and grow a Middle East‑based technical due diligence team to address a known capability gap in the region.

  • Collaborate with ERM’s global specialists and integrate expertise gained through recent acquisitions to enhance regional delivery.

  • Mentor and develop future leaders across the M&A and infrastructure advisory practice.

Thought Leadership and Market Positioning

  • Represent ERM at regional industry events, investor forums and strategic discussions.

  • Strengthen ERM’s profile in high‑value M&A transactions across the region.

  • Contribute to ERM’s thought leadership on sustainable infrastructure, energy transition, technical risk and asset resilience.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong background in corporate finance, institutional investing, private equity or investment advisory.

  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate engineering, environmental, digital, safety and ESG considerations into a single, coherent narrative.

  • Deep relationships within the Middle Eastern investment ecosystem including sovereign wealth funds, investment holding companies and major corporate groups.

  • Experience engaging senior financial stakeholders on ESG, sustainability, Technical DD and Infrastructure or responsible‑investment themes. Proven ability to originate client relationships and win advisory work.

  • Ability to navigate complex regional decision‑making landscapes.

  • Highly credible in front of senior investors and executives.

  • Strong networker who builds trust quickly and can speak the language of Middle Eastern investment culture.

  • Strategic and commercially minded, able to identify where ERM’s ESG and technical expertise aligns with client agendas.
