As a Technical Communicator you would be providing critical technical support to our on-the-ground Power and Energy Technicians'. You would be there to help them efficiently troubleshoot and repair customer equipment and act as the Finning liaison between Dealership personnel and various engineering groups at Caterpillar.

You would be responsible to provide support for various Power and Energy Systems products and would be joining a dedicated team of 4 who have over 100 years of combined mechanical experience, and over 40 years of technical services (TC) experience in assisting Finning technicians within all of Canada and abroad.

Note: This role is a permanent, fulltime (5X2 Monday – Friday) position. Ideally, the successful candidate would be based out of the Surrey branch, but consideration will be given to other locations based on experience and level of knowledge. As this role does require periodic travel throughout western Canada and abroad the successful candidate will be required to have a valid passport and need to produce a recent drivers abstract. Additional security clearances and criminal checks may be necessary to allow the successful candidate to enter and support coastal shipyards.

For this position, the expected base salary range is between $100,000 and $120,000 annually depending on experience. We also offer an annual performance-based bonus.

Job Description:

Day-in a life:
  • Respond to technical inquiries from technicians and internal stakeholders.
  • Review and analyze product health data to identify trends and issues.
  • Document findings and communicate solutions to service teams and Caterpillar.
  • Monitor and update product problem records in relevant systems.
  • Provide timely feedback and recommendations to improve product reliability and performance.

Major Job Responsibilities:

Be the Subject Matter Expert that technicians count on to deliver fast, expert technical support to field and shop teams, leveraging your and your teams know‑how and powerful tools like the PSCRM to keep equipment running smoothly.
Tackle real product challenges by identifying, managing, and resolving product health issues in partnership with Caterpillar, internal specialists, and external vendors.
Drive meaningful product improvements by supporting service departments and marketing teams as they roll out Product Improvement and Product Support Programs.
Be hands‑on with new technology - assist with application, installation, and commissioning of new products as they enter the field and use new innovative tools that support remote troubleshoot and flash.
Dig into complex failures by contributing to investigations and root‑cause analysis that directly influence future product design and reliability.
Own product problem accuracy—keep Product Problem Management systems up to date with clear, timely insights that help solve known and emerging issues.
Collaborate directly with Caterpillar to diagnose and resolve product problems, helping reduce downtime and minimize commercial impact for customers.
Get involved in field innovation by managing field‑follow units and collecting test iron data that shapes next‑generation of product development.
Work with diverse technical teams—both in and outside the organization—to help deliver Product Improvement Programs (PIPs) that make a measurable difference to product reliability.

 

Required Skills and Experience

  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification or equivalent experience.
  • 5–10 years of service experience; field service experience would be beneficial
  • Dual ticket (HET and Electrical) would be considered an asset.
  • Caterpillar Marine and Industrial engines experience a must
  • Strong knowledge of Caterpillar electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and engine systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Cat systems, tools and process’s
  • Superior mechanical aptitude with exceptional troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite including MS TEAMs
  • Strong time management, prioritization, and independent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and be able adapt communication style to diverse audiences.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have leadership experience.
