Tax Department Intern (Finance)

JAS is international freight forwarding and logistics company operating in approx. 350 locations around the world. The Worldwide Tax Department Intern will be exposed to international and domestic tax concepts, tax planning and M&A restructuring and tax compliance as well as participating in select phases of various long-term projects. Research tax laws, rules and regulations and analyze their application to specific situations at JAS. Support select projects by demonstrating creative thinking and individual initiative while working as a team member and building solid relationships with team members and other departments. Proactively seek guidance, clarification and feedback as well as demonstrate flexibility in prioritizing and completing tasks while exercising professional skepticism.

RESPONSIBILITY & EXPECTATIONS:

Hands-on learning experience using Checkpoint – tax law research software Learn by receiving personal coaching, hands on job experience and self-study of US corporation income tax law and regulations Obtain practical knowledge of One Source tax provision software Obtain practical knowledge of US GAAP tax accounting Hands on experience preparing quarterly tax provision Hands on understanding of transfer pricing and Pillar 2 tax compliance process

Review and assist with implementation of OECD Pillar 2 regulations in the jurisdiction that JAS operates

Review transfer pricing reports for accuracy and consistency

Assist in interviewing department heads to document each department operations and priorities.

Review Tax Department processes and suggest improvements Participate on internal calls discussing global and local tax issues as well as calls with 3rd party service provides, if needed. Assist in a preparation of various schedules needed to complete tax returns

At the end of the internship, the Intern is expected to understand global tax function, global tax compliance requirements as well as tax provision process. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Junior or Senior in college with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • Major in Accounting, Finance, International Business, Business Administration.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite
  • Detail oriented, able to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated, able to work in a team and independently
  • Ability to work with all levels of employees successfully
  • Fluent in English, verbal and written
  • Ability recognize, evaluate, and resolve problems effectively.

ENVIRONMENT:

100% performed in climate-controlled internal office environment working under normal office conditions.   Travel will be (up to __%) required in support of the position’s responsibilities.
