Those in tax controversy and dispute resolution at PwC will assist clients in managing tax controversies and resolving disputes with tax authorities. In this field, you will provide advice and representation during audits, investigations, and appeals, aiming to achieve favourable outcomes for clients while maintaining compliance with tax laws.

Within our Tax National Division, the Tax Controversy & Dispute Resolution (TCDR) team offers its expertise to clients to enable 
them to escalate/resolve administrative/procedural matters as well as resolve complex dispute related matters with SARS 

 

  • Assist to manage the team as well as current case load, including fee scoping as well as deliverables and managing the WIP and Invoicing 

  • Assuring that risk management is in place on all matters 

  • Assist in building the team and developing marketing and other strategies to broaden our client base/pipeline 

  • Present at client sessions and internal PwC training events on specific TCDR related topics 

  • Attend to and assist in advising clients on how to manage administrative/procedural matters with SARS 

  • Drafting of opinions/objections/appeals/VDP’s for clients as well as submitting to SARS and corresponding with SARS; 

  • Research of complex tax dispute/administrative related issues; 

  • Interpretation of tax legislation as well as assisting with commentary on new legislation/amendments for SAIT; 

  • Liaison with SARS and Counsel regarding complex and uncertain tax dispute matters; and 

  • Assist with the implementation of agreed advice with SARS as well as to ensure proper and correct outcomes for clients 

JOB PROFILE 

  • Director responsibilities in respect of the above will include: 

o Planning assignment approach including understanding client

expectations and scoping work; 

o Pro-actively identifying areas of contention and discussing these with the engagement team and proposing solutions (where possible); 

o Ensuring timely delivery, follow ups with SARS and keeping clients informed; 

o Ensuring that billing is done on time and correctly 

  

  • Financial portfolio management including WIP management, billings and cash collection. 

  • Complying with risk management procedures 

  • Training and performance management of consultants. 

  • Manage the work performance of managers 

  • Expand professional network internally and externally. 

  • Supervise office administration functions. 

  • The larger Tax community and staff 

  • Cross Line (X-Los) Partners and Managers 

  • Relevant firm subject matter experts 

  • Global TCDR network 

  

Minimum Qualifications 

• Relevant professional qualification (Admitted  attorney and/or Postgraduate studies in Tax/Law) 
• A post-graduate tax qualification would be ideal. 

  

Experience 

• 8 – 10 years’ experience in a tax consulting environment or practising law or accounting 
• Preferably advisory/legal practice experience 

  

Key Knowledge and Skills

• Relevant Tax Administration Act knowledge; 
• Income Tax, VAT and PAYE 
• Specific areas of expertise: i.e. Customs, mining, TP will be advantage 
• Self-starter, dynamic individual with the ability to provide solutions to business problems
