Systems Engineer III

The Systems Engineer III will provide recommendations based on business requirements and guide system initiatives. He or she will have a lead role in purchase justifications, project benefit analysis, and analysis of current support contracts for cost savings.
This role, working under the guidance of the Systems Engineering Manager, will architect innovative solutions for computer and storage systems to match the departmental strategies. The Systems Engineer III is considered a subject matter expert in automation to streamline operations and has a demonstrative mastery of at least one scripting language. The individual will have extensive experience writing proposals, procedures, policies, and technical documentation. This role will engineer and automate solutions to continually meet or exceed the needs of the business and service level agreements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

1. Oversees engineering in the planning, researching, evaluating, and designing of server and storage solutions that provide a long-term benefit for Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation (YSMN).

2. Leads project teams to implement the technology architecture components of a solution, and champions ongoing assurance of technology solutions through to delivery.

3. Champions the creation of documented policies, procedures, and processes such as operational run books.  Oversees the creation of architectural diagrams.

4. Designs, builds, engineers, and deploys enterprise infrastructure in the Azure public cloud applying functional knowledge technical expertise to support enterprise requirements.

5. Develops code in partnership with other teams to design infrastructure utilizing continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and management.

6. Builds systems and solutions to provide a secure working environment by identifying areas of risk.

7. Leads the troubleshooting efforts for any issues that arise with the infrastructure systems, including but not limited to, working with third-party vendors as well as other YSMN team members.

8. Performs incident, problem, and change management tasks (including but not limited to root cause analysis, request for change, and event/incident management).

9. Responsible for on-call duties on a rotational basis to support essential enterprise clients and emergencies.

10. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a related field is required.

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of systems administration experience is required.

  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

  • Expert level of knowledge with Structured Query Language (SQL) databases, virtual machine software from VMware, Microsoft Windows Server, and Linux in a large enterprise environment is required.
  • Proficient understanding of Active Directory & Domain architecture, New Technology File System (NTFS) permissions, Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), and certificate management.
  • Expert knowledge of and experience with platform hardware and Operating System level support is required.
  • Extensive experience planning and configuring Fault Tolerance (FT) and High Availability (HA) technologies is required.
  • In-depth experience with enterprise-class storage systems and backup technologies.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Windows scripting including PowerShell, Batch, and Visual Basic Script (VBScript) is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with enterprise level Microsoft Windows system patching.
  • Extensive experience with Exchange Server 2016 or newer architecture, services, and support.
  • Extensive experience with M365 services and support including Intune and Purview.
  • Advanced knowledge of current storage technologies: Object-based Storage, Network File System (NFS), and fiber-channel is preferred.
  • Expert-level knowledge of cloud technologies Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Azure is preferred.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • Certifications in VMware, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Linux, and backup suites are preferred.
  • Cloud certifications are preferred.
  • No Driving Responsibilities: Role does not require a driver’s license or insurance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORKING CONDITIONS – ENVIRONMENT

  • Primary work environment is in a climate-controlled office setting.
  • Work requires travel to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences.

  • Sedentary work: involves sitting most of the time. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Physical activities that apply to the essential functions of the position are balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Hearing sufficient to hear conversational levels in person, via videoconference and over the telephone.
  • Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in person, in front of groups, in meetings, via videoconference and over the telephone.
  • Visual acuity that meets the requirements of the position: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading and visual inspection of employees, visitors or facility.
  • Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend and kneel, and enter, exit and operate a motor vehicle in the course of travel to promotional events, meetings, conferences, trade shows and San Manuel properties.
  • Endurance sufficient to sit, walk and stand for extended periods, and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours.
  • The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including secondhand smoke.
