Collins Aerospace is seeking a Systems Engineer to support their Networks & Connectivity Engineering division located in Annapolis, Maryland. The Systems Engineer will work on the GLOBALink system, which is an air-to-ground communications system serving the commercial aviation and government air traffic authorities around the world.  GLOBALink is comprised of hundreds of radio ground stations, interfaces to satellite ground-earth stations, interfaces to hundreds of airline and civil aviation authority systems, and complex, proprietary message processing and system management servers, all connected by a complex and sizable communication infrastructure. The system is subject to continuous change as networking and communication technologies evolve. The Systems Engineer will also support the Technical Lead Engineer for the Data Comm Program.

This is an onsite position based in Annapolis, Maryland.

What you will do:

  • Perform engineering analysis of the GLOBALink service.
  • Perform quantitative analysis of the GLOBALink statistical data.
  • Develop complex SQL queries to gather and analyze engineering performance data.
  • Develop complex Python/R scripts to aid in data analysis.
  • Perform DataComm Operational Problem Report analysis.
  • Produce and maintain business intelligence dashboards.
  • Perform audits, which includes analyzing call records and logs for all aircraft and identifying issues.
  • Become fluent in GLOBALink’s communication protocols, including ACARS/VDL/ATN/FANS/CPDLC.
  • Become proficient in understanding the frequency management algorithms of the system.
  • Perform daily monitoring of the VDL/ATN statistical data and report anomalous behavior.
  • Analyze individual aircraft and airline fleet performance issues.
  • Analyze RF Coverage and provide ongoing support related to managing Surface, En Route and Transition Region coverage issues.
  • Present findings and conclusions to both internal and external groups.

Education & Experience you must have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field

Qualifications you must have:

  • Industry experience in data analysis.
  • Previous experience analyzing audits and call logs to system problems.
  • Previous experience with ACARS/VDL/ATN/FANS/CPDLC communication protocols.
  • Previous experience developing complex SQL queries and Python programs to perform statistical analysis.
  • Preview experience analyzing transmissions in a “Hidden-Terminal” environment.
  • Previous Tableau experience.
  • Able to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Fluent in the English language with strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Previous experience performing quantitative analysis of large data sets and analyzing performance of complex systems through statistical analysis.
  • Experience working in a highly integrated team environment with software, hardware, and network engineers.

The salary range for this role is 72,000 USD - 144,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
