In this exciting role you’ll play a meaningful and hands-on role in shaping the future of Scotch production at Diageo. You’ll join a passionate technical team committed to delivering our bold ambition of achieving our Spirit of Progress targets for water and carbon. This is a role for someone who loves collaboration, thrives on problem‑solving, and feels energised by driving real, measurable impact across iconic distilleries and supply sites.
Working closely with site teams, Global Project Engineering, and key business partners, you will help lead and support projects that push our sustainability performance forward, creatively, responsibly, and courageously. You’ll blend technical insight with curiosity, relationship-building, and a championing spirit to elevate the way we use water and energy, adopt new technologies, and unlock breakthrough performance across our 31 distilleries, 4 maltings, bottling hall, and maturation and coopering footprint.
In this role, you will:
Guide and assist water and carbon-reduction projects throughout the Scotch category, working side-by-side with operational teams to deliver our 2030 Spirit of Progress commitments
Provide technical insights that enhance water and energy efficiency, improve current water and carbon-reduction technologies, and meet environmental, cost, and performance targets.
Benchmark internally and externally, identifying emerging innovations and translating them into meaningful opportunities for Scotch.
Build strong, trust-based relationships with partners across finance, HR, risk & governance, procurement and more to deliver joined‑up, complete solutions.
Champion high standards, role‑modelling a steadfast drive for step‑change sustainability performance.
Enable confident problem‑solving, coaching others to use data, analytics and root-cause tools to solve challenges in a structured and empowering way.
Encourage a growth mindset, supporting multi-disciplinary collaboration and helping teams gain assurance in taking ownership of the challenges they face.

You’ll bring:
Qualifications
Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Chemical Engineering
Experience & Skills
Experience leading and delivering projects within a team
Confidence working in partnership with a wide range of colleagues and collaborators
A strong record of clear, engaging communication
Experience using statistical analysis tools and IS packages
Full clean driving licence with more than one year of driving experience
Desirable
Lean or Six Sigma experience or qualification
Excellence in Supply Chain
Ability to support and guide engagement as processes and strategy are implemented across malt distilling
A natural tendency to role model Dial Up behaviours, creating a positive and inclusive culture
A supportive approach to coaching others, helping them follow consistent, high‑quality ways of working
