Position Title: Support Worker- PART TIME – Townsville

Classification: SCHADS Level 3

Department: Social Mission (AOD)

Status: PART TIME – 21 HOURS

** Must be available to work a minimum of 3 night shifts a week **

About the Role

We’re looking for a compassionate and hands‑on AOD Part time Support Worker to join our Social Mission team. In this role, you’ll support individuals experiencing challenges with alcohol and other drug use, helping them build stability, confidence, and safety in their daily lives.

You’ll play a key part in connecting participants with treatment options, harm‑reduction strategies, and community services that strengthen their recovery journey.

How you will make an impact:

  • Provide a warm, responsive first point of contact for participants and address urgent or immediate needs.
  • Work alongside senior staff to identify and respond to potential high‑risk situations.
  • Facilitate daily programs and activities, including social groups, Spirit Lifter sessions, and information groups.
  • Offer information and support to help assess participant needs, circumstances, and goals.
  • Build strong, respectful relationships that encourage self‑determination, participation, and positive change.
  • Support participants to engage actively in their case plans.
  • Assist participants to access relevant support services and community resources.
  • Provide medication assistance as required and in line with organisational procedures.

What You Bring

  • A relevant certificate qualification (e.g., AOD, Community Services, Mental Health) or equivalent experience/on‑the‑job training; diploma‑level qualifications also welcomed.
  • Experience working in AOD, mental health, disability, or related community sectors.
  • Confidence and capability in managing unpredictable situations, challenging behaviours, and issues related to substance dependence, mental ill‑health, or disability.
  • A current First Aid Certificate.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • A Working With Children Check (Blue Card) for Townsville and Mount Isa roles only.
