The Measurement Science Group at the RTX Technologies Research Center (East Hartford, CT) has an open position for a returning intern to work in our Materials Characterization laboratories.

What You Will Do

  • Join a dynamic interdisciplinary team dedicated to developing innovative solutions for product and technology challenges.

  • Contribute to the team’s efforts in applying precision material preparation and characterization techniques to assess the physical properties of materials, components, and structures.

  • Support innovation research projects at RTX Technologies Research Center and collaborate with various RTX business units to address technical issues.

What You Will Learn

  • Precision specimen sectioning.

  • Sample mounting and polishing techniques.

  • Chemical handling and etching.

  • Optical microscopy methods.

  • Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging.

  • White light interferometry.

  • Technical reporting and project management skills.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or a related STEM discipline.

  • Candidate must not graduate before September 2026.

  • At least one prior RTX internship experience.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Hands-on experience with materials characterization techniques.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Location: This position is in East Hartford, CT and is an onsite role.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
