Summary
The College of Liberal Arts and Science is seeking a Student Services Specialist II in the Scientific Illustration and Visualization program. This position will provide direct services and/or programming to students.
The interdepartmental undergraduate Scientific Illustration and Visualization major is designed for students who want to combine their interests and aptitudes in science and art. Based on the theme of Communicating Science Through Art, the major prepares students for careers in scientific visualization/illustration or for graduate education in medical visualization/illustration. Graduates enter fields such as biocommunications, environmental display design, freelance illustration, UX/UI and museum display design, creative technologies, instructional design, and various careers in the publishing, research and education, and visual communication industries.
Example of Duties
Provides guidance, and resources to students for a variety of services.
Delivers services and/or programming for students such as scholarship coordination, disability services, academic success programs, and resources, etc.
Refers students to appropriate resources.
Coordinating the Mentorship Program.
Coordinating and participating in recruitment and student success efforts and events, including prospective student campus visits and new student orientation student success events.
Manage and help run open houses, workshops, on-campus events, and program presentations.
Working with the Director in field trip planning and coordination, travel, and liaising with industry and broader community partners.
Working with students to maintain, care for, and build specimens and art collections, and student projects.
Assisting the SCI VIZ Learning Community as needed.
Assisting with and creating newsletters and outputting materials for on and off-campus purposes, such as video boards and displays, distributing materials, generating and participating in general communication needs, sending announcements and calendar invites.
Liaising with numerous college offices and departments for collaboration opportunities and the business of the Program
Working with the Director in procuring and managing new material supplies and technology, requests for IT support and service, requests for university facilities management services, ensuring spaces are well stocked, tracking and planning purchases, generating expense reports, and planning fund-raising events and efforts.
Course and room scheduling and assisting the Director with curriculum and catalog updates.
Level Guidelines
• Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals
• Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems
• Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests
• May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
• May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
• Provides guidance to students
This position is a 10-month continuous appointment spanning August through May, with an anticipated workload of 30 hours per week.
