Duties and Responsibilities:
● Knowledge of second language teaching/learning methods and techniques.
● Ability to work effectively with administrators and other school staff in organizing and implementing the ELD instructional program.
● Provide individual and group services that emphasize improved educational
performance in the realm of English Language Development for MLLs
● Develops a cooperative partnership with students and parents based on
mutual respect.
● Develops/adapts lesson plans and instructional materials to enhance the
affective and cognitive development of students, to motivate students and to
cater to the needs of all ability levels within the class.
● Interprets the educational program to parents and other community members
through personal conferences, meetings, and various media using the primary
language when appropriate.
● Responsible for entering data and keeping ELD files in compliance with
federal, state, and local mandates and provisions.
● Maintain appropriate data on students to document current levels of
performance and other pertinent information. Re-evaluate, as appropriate, to
determine progress and future needs for ELD.
● Assists with the administration of all state mandated testing for Multi- Language Learners (MLLs) in order to design and place students in programs that best fit their needs.
● Increases the academic performance of English learners by designing and
implementing pullout and/or push-in language acquisition instruction for multi
language learners (MLL’s) within the school.
● Builds school-wide capacity of best practices for MLL’s through
co-planning/teaching, planning and facilitating professional development, and
collaborating with teachers and building administrators
● Requires flexibility as ELD teachers are assigned a caseload based on the
shifting needs of students.
● Maintains accurate and confidential records of all assigned students
● Communicate proactively with other staff, students, and parents
● Attend mandatory district training and meet district and state mandated
reporting deadlines for MLLs
Required Qualifications:
● Colorado Department of Education’s Teacher License for Culturally and
Linguistically Diverse Education (preferred). Otherwise, must hold a Teacher
License (Elementary or Secondary) and gain CLD endorsement within 2 years
after hire.
● Strong data management skills.
● Proficient with technology, Apple and Google based platforms.
● Experience with second language assessment and diagnostics.
● Excellent communication skills including report writing and record keeping
Preferred Qualifications:
● Passion for the arts in education.
● Experience as an ELD teacher
Establish a safe, inclusive environment for all learners.
Establish and model positive relationships with students and colleagues and differentiate interactions based on knowledge of each student and colleague.
New ELD Teachers participate in ELD Essentials and Induction sessions as part of the onboarding process
Maintain compliance procedures in accordance with district policies, state and federal laws
Identify, plan for, and serve every assigned Multilingual Learner directly and consistently
Coach and mentor teachers to support Multilingual learners in educational settings.
Intentionally plan and facilitate instruction that aligns with the WIDA Standards and Colorado Academic Standards and meets the linguistic needs of each Multilingual Learner
Create and maintain MLPs for each identified Multilingual Learner
Analyze student performance via a body of evidence to support instructional decisions. This includes monitoring and analyzing the linguistic and academic progress of individual students and the ELD Program as a whole. Use this student assessment data to purposefully plan lessons and to meet the differentiated needs of students.
Administer/assist with the administration of state and federal assessments forMultilingual Learners (e.g., ACCESS for ELLS)
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested
Collaborate and partner with school personnel, students, and families
Use instructional strategies to facilitate learning opportunities for students to demonstrate content knowledge and higher-order thinking skills.
Provide student data and collaborate with problem-solving teams to meet the unique strengths and needs of Multilingual Learners
