Student Justice Centre Peer Assistant
within the Human Rights and Equity (HRE) Office

The Student Justice Centre is a part of the Human Rights and Equity (HRE) Office at Brock University. HRE is a resource for all Brock community members, which includes students, staff, and faculty. HRE addresses human rights, harassment, and discrimination that is connected to the Ontario Human Rights Code. HRE sees great value in the peer-to-peer leadership model and student advocacy, as student-led leadership creates a more inclusive, safer campus for everyone.
The Student Justice Centre at Brock University seeks five (5) peer assistants to join our team to empower students to become agents of positive change within their communities and beyond. The SJC Peer Assistants will provide a welcoming and safe space for students to gather, connect with like-minded individuals, and engage in social and political discussions, education, and activism. Peer assistants will be offered a 35-week contract of 10-12 hrs/week from August 2026 through April 2027 at Brock University's main campus in St. Catharines.
Successful candidates are expected to be available for in-person program delivery (workshops, drop-ins and events) at the St. Catharines campus. Some evenings and weekends will be required. Team members will report to and work daily with their supervisor, the Student Justice Coordinator.
Duties & Responsibilities
All team members will be involved in the following areas of work:
Develop and Deliver Social Justice Programming
Staff Drop-In and Provide Support Services
Conduct Research on Social Justice Issues and Best Practices
Liaise with Campus and Community Partners
Programming Areas include:
Anti-Racism Advocacy Peer Assistant, Accessibility & Disability Justice Advocacy Peer Assistant, Feminist Advocacy Peer Assistant, Anti-Islamophobia Educator Peer Assistant, Antisemitism Educator Peer Assistant, Gender and Sexual Diversity Peer Assistant, and General Social Justice Peer Assistant.

Accountability for time worked will be implemented through the use of time sheets.

Anticipated start date will be August 24th for mandatory paid onboarding and training. The position will be contracted for 10-12 hours per week for 35-weeks between August 2026 through April 2027.
