We're embarking on an engineering transformation with the key focus on quality, engineering, automation & AI.
You have knowledge that spans both development and operations, including coding, infrastructure management, system admin/engineering and DevOps Toolchains.
Together we will build tomorrow’s bank today, using world-leading engineering, technology, and innovation.
Do work that matters:
Bankwest has a rich heritage. We’re proud to be part of the fabric of Western Australia with a strong culture built on local support. With the support of a strong partner in CBA, we share a belief in the value of our brand, our potential for growth and a big aspirational Vision.
As part of the Chief Software Engineer function, this team contributes to the delivery of key technology outcomes within the Origination & Lending Experience domain, working closely with the Bankwest Lending platform and supporting services. Their focus is on enabling critical capabilities that help simplify and improve the lending experience. Operating across key stages of the Lending lifecycle, the team provides targeted engineering capability to progress complex initiatives and support delivery where deep technical expertise is required
Partnering closely with Crews, Chapters, and Product Owners, the team contributes to technology initiatives through modern architecture approaches, automation, and platform-aligned engineering solutions that support scalable and resilient systems. They champion engineering excellence and operational maturity, strengthening CI/CD, automated testing, observability, performance, security, and governance to ensure production-grade, audit-ready systems.
They also explore the application of emerging capabilities such as Agentic AI and automation frameworks to support workflow orchestration, enhance decisioning, and improve operational efficiency within Home Lending services. By embedding Agentic AI and centralised automation frameworks, they help unlock greater velocity, efficiency, and scalability by intelligently orchestrating workflows, enhancing decisioning, and streamlining operations across the Home Lending lifecycle.
See yourself in our team:
Bankwest's Technology Division develops and executes all technical change within the organisation ensuring the leverage of technology to deliver the Bankwest strategy. The division works on a wide variety of technologies and projects with the support of a dedicated team in an Agile methodology.
Reporting directly to the Chief Software Engineer, you are the key link between strategic technical direction and the Bankwest Home Lending platform, shaping solutions that span the home loan lifecycle from origination and onboarding through core servicing, customer experience, and pricing. You will work at the centre of influence, partnering with Crews, Chapters, and Product Owners to drive real transformation, uplift tooling and engineering frameworks, and embed modern architecture and operational excellence across the ecosystem. This is where strategy turns into execution and engineering excellence becomes measurable impact.
This is a place for builders and innovators who want to operate at the forefront of technology. You will help lead complex technology uplifts, implement Agentic AI and centralised automation frameworks, and design scalable, resilient systems that unlock new levels of speed, intelligence, and customer value. You will mentor engineers, elevate Chapter capability, and shape standards that define how Home Lending is built and run. If you want to influence at scale, solve meaningful problems, and be part of a core team driving the future of Bankwest Home Lending, this is where you belong.
We’re interested in hearing from people who:
Operate as a hands-on Technical Subject Matter Expert, setting direction through deep technical credibility and leading from the front in architecture, design, and code.
Drive strong technical leadership across crews, aligning engineers to a clear vision while influencing standards, patterns, and engineering best practice.
Lead end-to-end innovation across the full delivery lifecycle from discovery, design, build, test, deploy, and optimise, ensuring outcomes are practical, scalable, and production-ready.
Champion a true build it, deploy it, run it, own it mindset, embedding accountability, operational ownership, and continuous improvement into every solution.
Translate complex business challenges into executable technical strategies, making clear trade-offs and guiding teams through ambiguity with confidence.
Stay close to the technology, actively contributing to critical code paths, architecture decisions, automation, and production problem-solving.
Foster a culture of engineering excellence where innovation is balanced with reliability, security, compliance, and measurable business impact.
