The Sr. Systems Engineer will lead the design, integration, and implementation of complex systems supporting new ship builds, ensuring compliance with international regulations and cybersecurity standards. This role combines governance and compliance responsibilities with advanced systems engineering expertise, while maintaining coordination for penetration testing and security assessments.
This position is on-site in Papenburg, Germany.
Responsibilities
Systems Engineering & Architecture
Design and implement shipboard Operational Technology (OT) systems architecture, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
Oversee system configuration, integration, and performance optimization across multiple platforms.
Develop and maintain lifecycle management processes for critical systems supporting new builds.
Collaborate with engineering teams to validate technical specifications and ensure alignment with project objectives.
Compliance & Governance
Ensure adherence to E26 and E27 classification society regulations for new ship builds.
Establish and maintain processes for monitoring, detection, and response in compliance with international standards.
Serve as the primary liaison between shipyard vendors, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders for compliance matters.
Cybersecurity & Pen Testing Coordination
Coordinate penetration testing activities, including scheduling, interpreting test results, and driving remediation plans.
Partner with GIS and security teams to manage vulnerability assessments and implement security configurations for OT systems.
Contribute to the development of security architectures and risk mitigation strategies for shipboard technologies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Act as the central point of contact for coordination between Shipyard, Vendors, GIS, and Technology teams.
Support project planning and execution, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints.
Qualifications
Extensive experience in systems architecture, integration, and performance optimization.
Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles, penetration testing methodologies, and compliance frameworks.
Familiarity with shipbuilding processes and OT technologies is highly desirable.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
