About the Role:

The Senior Director of Data Platforms and Research Solutions is accountable for the strategy, delivery, reliability, and adoption of Neurocrine Biosciences’ enterprise data platforms. This role owns the end-to-end data platform ecosystem related cloud infrastructure, data engineering platforms, orchestration, governance, analytics enablement, operational excellence, and ensures it scales securely to meet current and future business needs.

You are a senior technology leader with deep roots in data engineering and modern cloud platforms, combined with strong people leadership and executive level communication skills. You set technical direction, build and lead high performing data platform teams, establish standards, and partner closely with business, IT, security, and compliance stakeholders.

This role is foundational to Neurocrine’s research and development future. The Senior Director enables scalable, compliant, and interoperable data platforms that support discovery research, translational science, clinical development, biomarker analytics, and real-world evidence. The platform must support both exploratory research workflows and validated, production grade analytics in a GxP environment.

This leader is accountable for modernizing legacy data approaches while building forward-looking capabilities including multi-modal research data integration, advanced analytics enablement, and AI/ML readiness without compromising regulatory rigor.

Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):

  • Partner closely with Research, Clinical Development, Biometrics, Bioinformatics, and Data Science functions to ensure platforms support real scientific and clinical workflows.
  • Enable scalable, reproducible, and traceable analysis across discovery, preclinical, and clinical domains by aligning platform capabilities to scientific use cases.
  • Ensure data platforms support scientific rigor, reproducibility, and transparency, including support for exploratory analysis, model development, and regulatory submissions.
  • Define and enforce data lifecycle management for research and clinical data, from ingestion through archival, in compliance with GxP and data retention requirements.
  • Own metadata, lineage, and data catalog strategies to enable scientific transparency, auditability, reuse, and cross-study analysis.
  • Ensure platforms meet GxP, data governance, privacy, and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) while enabling efficient scientific collaboration.
  • Own and define the enterprise data platform strategy and roadmap, aligned with business priorities, regulatory requirements, and long-term scalability.
  • Lead multiple teams responsible for cloud data platforms, data engineering frameworks, orchestration, data quality, analytics enablement, and platform operations.
  • Establish and enforce platform standards for architecture, security, reliability, performance, and cost management.
  • Drive operational excellence across the data platform ecosystem, including availability, incident management, SLAs, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Make build/buy/partner decisions for data technologies and vendors and manage strategic vendor relationships.
  • Partner with Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, and Security to ensure platforms meet zero-trust and defense-in-depth principles.
  • Translate ambiguous business needs into clear technical and organizational execution plans.
  • Partner with business leaders, data science, analytics, engineering, security, and compliance teams to ensure platforms enable high value use cases and sustained adoption.
  • Develop and manage budgets, headcount planning, and investment prioritization for data platforms.
  • Build a strong leadership bench by hiring, coaching, mentoring, and retaining senior engineering and platform leaders.
  • Act as an executive level evangelist for modern data platforms and data-driven decision-making.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Applied Science, Mathematics, Information Systems, or a related technical or quantitative field and 13+ years of progressively responsible experience in data, platform, or software engineering roles, including leadership of large scale data ecosystems OR;
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Applied Science, Mathematics, Information Systems, or a related technical or quantitative field and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in data, platform, or software engineering roles, including leadership of large scale data ecosystems
  • Proven experience owning and scaling enterprise data platforms in Pharmaceutical settings.
  • Deep understanding of modern cloud data architectures and patterns.
  • Strong leadership experience managing managers and senior technical leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance speed, quality, security, and compliance.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, lineage, and access control.
  • Track record of driving measurable platform adoption and business value.
  • Executive level communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to operate across strategy and execution without losing accountability.
  • Strong organizational leadership and change management capabilities.
  • Excellent prioritization, decision making, and risk management skills.
  • Ability to lead through ambiguity and competing demands.
  • Clear ownership mindset.

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $186,400.00-$351,000.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 35% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
