Sr Director Business Development - Ameriprise Personal Wealth Group

The Senior Director of Business Development plays a pivotal role in identifying, cultivating, and managing a pipeline of financial advisor practices considering strategic transitions. These transitions may include selling their practices to Ameriprise Financial, leveraging their practices for equity, or planning for contingencies such as death or disability.

This role requires strategic thinking, interpersonal acumen, and operational discipline. Ideal candidates will have experience in financial services, practice management, M&A, or advisor recruiting, and a passion for helping advisors navigate critical career transitions.

  • Relationship Building
    Build and nurture relationships with financial advisors across the industry to understand their long-term goals, succession plans, and potential interest in transitioning their practice.

  • Pipeline Management
    Manage a dynamic pipeline of advisor practices, tracking engagement, readiness, and alignment with Ameriprise/APWG acquisition strategies.

  • Consulting
    Advise advisors on transition options, including full or partial sale, equity monetization, and contingency planning.

  • Business Development
    Network with senior leaders to establish new business opportunities. Develop a pipeline through speaking engagements, outbound calls, emails, and social media. Make on-site presentations, negotiate, and close deals.

  • Strategic Insights
    Provide market intelligence to inform acquisition strategy and enhance value propositions for prospective sellers.

  • Education & Outreach
    Support webinars, conferences, and consultations to promote Ameriprise/APWG as a destination for practice continuity and growth.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.

Experience:

  • 7+ years in financial services, business development, or related field.

  • Experience in sales, account management, or advisor recruiting preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • FINRA Series 6 or 7, Series 63/66, and Series 24 required (or ability to obtain).

Skills:

  • Strong relationship development and management skills.

  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.

  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to travel and work independently.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to influence senior and executive-level management.

  • Comfortable presenting to large groups and high-level decision makers.

Base Pay Salary

The estimated base salary for this role is $160,600-$220,800/year. We have a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy. Your initial total compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role.
