Brief overview of Position

The Senior Credit Officer is responsible for developing credit guidelines and policies, credit underwriting, credit approval and collection processes, credit monitoring practices, and providing direction to the credit team to ensure overall quality of the Bank's loan portfolio. This position has a focus on the Real Estate line of businesses.

Responsibilities

To be successful in this role, the candidate must be an effective team player who is able to process large amounts of information, communicate and collaborate in a clear and concise manner, and develop innovative solutions for our clients, all while maintaining a strong and efficient attention to detail and managing multiple workstreams. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to make calculated decisions and take quick and strategic action.
  • Expert ability to interact, negotiate, and influence at executive levels internally and externally.
  • Expert ability to analyze and evaluate credit risk, with expert ability to escalate recommendations and influence change.
  • Expert knowledge of legal documentation and understanding of structure and terms
  • Deep knowledge of key risk, legal and compliance issues relevant to the Bank’s lending activities
  • Advanced ability to self-direct and manage competing priorities on concurrent large, complex projects, initiatives and deliverables.
  • Comprehensive industry and market knowledge with subject-matter expertise
  • Identify and influence transformational opportunities.
  • Knowledge of the latest financial, technology, and banking product innovations and regulations
  • Lead in a fast-paced, dynamic, collaborative, and transformative environment.
  • Maintain strong external network and market presence through active community leadership and relationship development.
  • Manage expenses and resources to ensure a healthy P&L statement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, Commercial or related field
  • Formal Credit training or commensurate underwriting experience
  • MBA, CPA, CFA or equivalent designations preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years combined in real estate lending and credit roles of increasing responsibilities
  • Experience with financial institutions including depository and non-depository financial institutions, fund financing, and insurance is preferred
  • Prior experience as a commercial lender preferred
  • Prior management experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of risks impacting the Commercial Real Estate and Homebuilding sector with prior experience as a senior credit approver in a commercial banking environment. Deep experience expected in credit underwriting, loan structuring and portfolio risk management, with competency in both construction and term lending strategies. Homebuilder related experience for both public and private companies and land developers. 
  • Broad understanding of appraisal and valuation methodologies applicable for both CRE and Homebuilding. 
  • Prior experience with real estate loan workout and collection activity is preferred. 
  • Prior management experience required.
