To match the signature style and passion of Target’s distinctive retail brand, Target Legal Affairs is a dynamic and deeply knowledgeable team of experts. We work with both internal and external entities on key issues that affect Target’s ability to conduct business productively, ethically, and securely. Through our understanding of Target’s business models and operations, we help facilitate Target’s growth, and provide guidance that leaders rely on to make appropriate, well-informed decisions. A role in Corporate Security means collaborating with dedicated professionals to protect Target’s team members, guests, property, and brand.  We are looking for a Protective Intelligence Analyst comfortable operating in a high-tempo environment and skilled at leveraging open source intelligence (OSINT) and publicly available information (PAI) to proactively identify risks, assess evolving threats, and deliver timely insights to enable enterprise-level decision making.

As part of a growing intelligence capability, you will help strengthen and scale protective intelligence practices and OSINT research capabilities within the department. This includes refining analytic workflows, enhancing information-sharing processes, and deepening cross-functional partnerships to ensure insights are timely, relevant, and actionable.

Success in this role requires intellectual curiosity, strong analytical discipline, and the ability to rapidly convert fragmented or ambiguous information into clear risk narratives and practical recommendations for leaders.

Please note: This position may require reviewing sensitive or disturbing content, including explicit or violent material, in the course of threat-related research and analysis.

Core responsibilities of this job are described within this job description. Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.

As a Sr. Consultant, Protective Intelligence Analyst, you will:

  • Leverage industry-leading digital investigative techniques, analytic tradecraft, and specialized research tools to continuously monitor open-source environments—including social media platforms, fringe forums, and other publicly available sources—to detect emerging risks and assess potential threats to Target team members, senior leaders, facilities, guests, brand, and enterprise operations.

  • Provide intelligence support for executive protection activities, domestic and international travel, and major enterprise events, including pre-event risk assessments and live monitoring.

  • Evaluate and triage threatening communications, online behaviors, and persons of concern.

  • Analyze broader geopolitical, societal, and industry-specific trends that could impact Target’s people, reputation, or operational continuity.

  • Deliver intelligence products tailored to audience needs, from rapid situational updates to detailed assessments that inform executive decision-making.

  • Partner across Corporate Security, Legal, HR, Communications, and other enterprise teams to ensure aligned risk mitigation strategies.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholders, such as peer organizations and OSINT industry networks.

You May Be a Good Fit If:

  • You have 5+ years of relevant experience in protective intelligence, OSINT targeting, behavioral threat assessment, corporate investigations, public-sector intelligence, or a related field.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant discipline.

  • Demonstrated expertise in OSINT methodologies and familiarity with advanced research, monitoring, and social media analysis platforms.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief senior leaders with clarity and confidence.

  • Sound judgment and the ability to balance speed with analytical rigor in high-pressure situations.

  • Comfort working independently while also contributing to a highly collaborative, cross-functional team environment.

  • Substantive understanding of the legal and ethical best practices associated with conducting research using publicly available information.

  • Are comfortable with a flexible schedule, including periodic 24/7 on-call and after-hours response, when needed.

Additional Qualifications That Will Differentiate You:

  • Experience supporting security or intelligence functions within large, complex organizations.

  • Understanding of risks associated with emerging technologies and evolving digital ecosystems.

  • Professional certifications such as CPP, PCI, CTM, or comparable intelligence credentials.

  • Familiarity with privacy regulations and legal frameworks governing information collection and investigative practices in the private sector.

  • Experience using link analysis software, data visualization platforms, or geospatial analytic tools.
