Operating Engineer – Electrical – JLL

What this job involves:

Build a fulfilling career at JLL as an Operating Engineer – Electrical! In this role, you'll perform a comprehensive range of electrical trade functions essential to facility operations, including installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment for the generation, distribution, and utilization of electric energy. You'll work with critical electrical systems including generators, transformers, switchboards, motors, and distribution equipment while maintaining the highest safety standards and regulatory compliance. This position requires comprehensive training and experience in electrical systems—typically acquired through formal apprenticeship or equivalent training—and offers the opportunity to leverage your expertise in a dynamic facilities environment. You'll diagnose complex electrical issues, respond to emergency situations, and ensure continuous, safe operation of building electrical systems. What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment including generators, transformers, switchboards, motors, and distribution systems
  • Design and install conduit systems and other electrical transmission equipment
  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical drawings, and technical specifications
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical system malfunctions using specialized testing instruments and diagnostic equipment
  • Perform load calculations for wiring and equipment installations to ensure proper system capacity
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on electrical systems to ensure safety, reliability, and continuous operation
  • Document completed work accurately and maintain detailed service records
  • Support secondary facility maintenance tasks including basic plumbing repairs and HVAC troubleshooting
  • Respond promptly to emergency electrical issues to minimize downtime
  • Ensure all work complies with electrical codes, safety regulations, and building standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Formal electrical apprenticeship completion or equivalent training and experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical codes and safety regulations (NEC, OSHA, local codes)
  • Proven experience with installation and repair of commercial electrical systems and equipment
  • Proficiency in using electrician's hand tools and specialized measuring/testing instruments
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical specifications
  • Strong documentation and record-keeping skills
  • Availability to respond to emergency situations when needed
  • Physical ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and lift/carry equipment as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Journeyman or Master Electrician license
  • Experience in a facilities maintenance environment
  • Knowledge of building automation systems (BAS) and energy management systems
  • Basic skills in complementary trades such as plumbing, HVAC, and general maintenance
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs and planning
  • Familiarity with energy efficiency practices, LED retrofits, and sustainable solutions
  • Experience with high-voltage systems and emergency power systems

Fort Wayne, IN.

Work Shift:

First shift: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
