We are looking for a creative and skilled Sound / Audio Designer to help shape the auditory experience across General Motors’ vehicle portfolio. In this role, you will design and produce high‑quality sounds that enhance the user experience, support brand identity, and complement multimodal interaction patterns within GM products.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners—including UX/UI, Advanced Design, and engineering teams—to deliver polished sound assets and contribute to well-crafted user experiences. This role is ideal for someone who has strong audio design fundamentals, a passion for creating emotionally resonant sound experiences, and the ability to apply user‑centered design principles in a highly collaborative environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with UX/UI, Advanced Design, and engineering teams to integrate sound consistently throughout the user journey.
  • Support the development of multimodal interaction experiences (voice, sound, visuals, haptics, etc.) by contributing sound assets and assisting with prototype creation.
  • Use sound production tools (Logic Pro, Ableton Live, etc.) to develop polished audio that aligns with usability, accessibility, and product requirements.
  • Participate in design critiques, working sessions, and cross-functional meetings to ensure alignment across teams.
  • Document audio guidelines, naming conventions, and design rationale to support implementation and future scalability.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 2+ years of experience in sound design, audio production, or interactive audio for digital products, automotive, gaming, or related fields.
  • Education or strong background in classical music, music theory, musical history, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proficiency with sound design and audio production tools.
  • Experience working with design or prototyping tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to create interactive prototypes for multimodal experiences (voice, sound, visuals, touch, chat, etc.).
  • Basic familiarity with conversational design principles or AI‑powered interaction patterns (nice-to-have, not expert level).
  • Strong creative problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • A portfolio showcasing your sound design capabilities in professional and/or academic environments.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience designing audio for multimodal or conversational interfaces.
  • Basic understanding of Generative AI or prompt-based interaction models.
  • Experience participating in user testing or research that involves evaluating sound or multimodal experience quality.
  • Ability to communicate audio concepts clearly to non-technical partners.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate strong curiosity and a self-starter attitude to learning new skills, software, etc.
