Role Responsibilities

Work closely with engineering and business teams to develop solutions that improve operational efficiency and strengthen KYC and compliance functions. Responsibilities include designing scalable APIs, turning complex business requirements into practical architecture, and providing strategic technical direction.

In this position, you will collaborate directly with engineering and business teams to design and deliver complex solutions that simplify processes, drive innovation, and leverage advanced technologies to strengthen enterprise capabilities.

As a lead team member, you will play a crucial role in developing the modernized API platform for all Western Union business lines. This position allows you to shape the business strategy through impactful results.

  • Design and implement robust, secure, scalable APIs to support the KYC and Compliance ecosystems.
  • Develop API solutions that integrate with both internal and third-party systems.
  • Use API security best practices, enforce strong authentication, and comply with industry standards.
  • Assess existing APIs and recommend improvements to align with industry benchmarks.
  • Conduct code reviews, maintain coding standards, and drive high code quality within the team.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues, perform root cause analysis, collaborate with stakeholders and implement effective solutions.
  • Optimize APIs for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with Product and Technology stakeholders to deliver technical solutions.
  • Play an active role in the recruitment and onboarding process for new team members, while promoting a culture that emphasizes continuous learning and innovation.
  • Mentor team members and encourage a collaborative team environment.
  • Participate in cross-functional planning meetings to offer insights and assist in resolving any blockers.
  • Maintain a strong focus on the customer journey, product quality, performance optimization, troubleshooting, and continuous development.

Role Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related fields with 8+ years of professional experience OR Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience OR equivalent work experience. 
  • Extensive software development experience, particularly in API development and microservices architectures using modern API design principles.
  • At least 6 years of proven experience with frameworks and technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, REST API, Sprint Batch, and Core Java.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Snowflake.
  • Strong knowledge of microservices and event-driven architecture, with the ability to implement solutions and guide team members.
  • Experience in designing and building high-performance APIs.
  • Background in developing, monitoring, and deploying applications on AWS Cloud.
  • Demonstrates strong proficiency in data structures, design patterns, algorithms, and object-oriented programming principles.
  • Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, covering areas like source control, continuous integration, infrastructure automation, and continuous deployment.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools including Splunk, Dynatrace, and AWS CloudWatch.
  • Proficient in basic and intermediate Git commands, repository setup and management on platforms like GitHub, and collaborative workflows.
  • Strong skills in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of Kafka, Docker, or Kubernetes is an advantage.
  • Experience integrating with KYC, Compliance, and vendor systems in banking or payment environments is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with both internal and external partners worldwide.

Work Shift

Salary

Annual base salary range is $130,000 – 155,000 USD per year.  Total on-target compensation includes a base salary and short-term that align with individual and company performance. Actual salaries will vary based on candidates’ qualifications, skills, and competencies.
